Huawei P20 and P20 Pro sales cross 10 million globally, introduces Morpho Aurora, Pearl White colors, P20 Pro Leather variants

Huawei at the IFA 2018 announced that it has sold 10 million units of P20 Pro and P20 smartphones globally in the first five months. It also introduced new variants in the P20 series. It also said that it has shipped over 10 million units in the Mate 10 series. This includes Morpho Aurora and Pearl White variants of the P20 and the P20 Pro that are nature-inspired hues. The company also introduced leather variants of the P20 Pro. This includes Golden Brown and Elegant Black Leather back versions that uses Italian calf leather in the top layer, Pamelatto handmade tanning process offering exquisite, natural texture. Commenting on the latest milestone, Kevin Ho, President of Handset Business, Huawei Consumer Business Group, said: We are humbled by the reception of our latest flagships among global consumers. By going above the 10-million mark, we have again set ourselves a high bar to clear, but we will treat it as a symbol of encouragement that will fuel us as we continue doing what we do best—putting cutting-edge innovations into the hands of consumers around the world.

nubia-α wearable smartphone teased at IFA 2018

ZTE's nubia brand at the IFA 2018 in Berlin teased the nubia-α, which it calls the world's most advanced wearable smartphone. It says that it is not just a smartphone, it is a new species. It has a large, curved OLED touch screen, a camera on the front along with a microphone and buttons on either sides. On the back there are charging pins and a heart rate sensor. It also has a metal strap, and it comes in Black and Golden colors. The company did not share technical details or when it will go on sale, and the device in the video doesn't look like it is still in concept stage. It looks good in the video, but it is not clear how long this will last since most LTE smartwatches with calling capabilities doesn't last throughout the day. We should know more details about nubia's wearable smartphone in the coming months.

Indian wearables shipments cross 1 million in Q2 2018, Xiaomi leads with 45.8% share: IDC

According to the latest report from International Data Corporation (IDC), the wearables market in India has witnessed a growth in the second quarter of 2018 (2018Q2) as the overall wearables market grew 66% year-over-year (YOY) and 40% sequentially, making it the biggest quarter for the wearables category in India. The report also mentioned that one million units of wearables were shipped in 2018 Q2 with top three brands retaining their position in the overall wearables market. Apart from wristbands, which accounted for almost 90% of the shipments during the quarter, watches with wearable computing also grew 34% sequentially. Mi fans! Huawei at the IFA 2018 announced its flagship Kirin 980 7nm SoC with dedicated dual neural network processing units. Huawei Kirin 980 world’s first 7nm SoC with Dual NPU announced

Huawei at the IFA 2018 announced Kirin 980, its next-generation processor of high-end devices and the world’s first commercial mobile SoC manufactured with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturer Company’s (TSMC) 7nm proces and with dedicated Dual Neural Processing Unit (NPU). It is an Octa-Core SoC with two ARM Cortex A76 Cores clocked up to 2.6GHz for Turbo performance, two ARM Cortex A76 Cores clocked up to 1.92GHz for Long-lasting performance and four ARM Cortex A55 Cores clocked up to 1.8 GHz for power efficiency. It has support for LTE Cat.21 offering download speeds of up to 1.4 Gbps. It packs 6.9 billion transistors within a 1cm2 die size, up by 1.6 times from the previous generation. "Compared to the 10nm process, the 7nm process delivers 20 percent improved SoC performance and 40 percent improved SoC efficiency," said Huawei. Compared to Kirin 970, the Kirin 980 promises 75% improved performance and 58% better energy efficiency. The 10-core Mali-G76 GPU has clock boosting technology that intelligently identify gaming workloads and adjust resource allocation for optimal gaming performance. Xiaomi migrates Indian users’ data to local cloud infrastructure

Xiaomi today announced that it is migrating its Indian data to cloud service providers with infrastructure in India. This cover all Indian user data across Xiaomi e-commerce platform (mi.com/in), Mi Community (in.c.mi.com), Mi Cloud, MIUI (Xiaomi Market, feed, Mi Video, advertising, Mi Messaging, push notifications, etc) and Mi TV. It is using Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure infrastructure in India and the company said that all the existing data would be migrated by the end of 2018, while new Indian user data since 1 July is already being stored in local servers. All existing user data on mi.com/in will be fully migrated to servers in India by mid-September 2018. Prior to this these were stored in AWS servers across Singapore and the United States. Vodafone India, Idea Cellular merger complete; Vodafone Idea Limited becomes country’s biggest telecom operator

After signing agreements back in March last year, Vodafone India and Aditya Birla Group’s telecom arm Idea Cellular have announced that the merger has been completed. Idea Cellular has been renamed as ‘Vodafone Idea Limited’ and the service provider has subscriber base of over 408 million (as of June 2018) with 1 RMS in 9 circles, broadband network of 340,000 sites, and widest distribution reach with 1.7 million retail outlets. With 1850 MHz of total spectrum holding, over 200,000 unique GSM sites and ~235,000 km of fibre, the merged company offers superior voice and broadband connectivity across the country, covering 92% of the population and reaching nearly 500,000 towns and villages. Merger is expected to generate Rs. 140 billion annual synergy, including opex synergies of Rs. 84 billion, equivalent to a net present value of approximately Rs. 700 billion. Apple iPhone XS with 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED display and Apple Watch Series 4 with larger, edge-to-edge display surface

After Apple announced its exclusive event on September 12th, press images of the 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED models have surfaced, and these are expected to be called  iPhone XS. These are expected to come in new gold color option. Earlier rumors revealed that all the iPhone models will have a notch, Face ID with gesture-based control system and new A12 processor. Press image of the Apple Watch Series 4 has also surfaced revealing a large edge-to-edge display ~15% bigger compared to the Series 3, as well as minimal bezels around the watch display. It is also said to come with a new watch face capable of showing a lot of information. This analog watch face will show a total of eight complications around the time and within the clock hands. There is a new hole between the side button and Digital Crown, which could be a secondary microphone. It will also include a new Digital Crown and side button. Google Pixel 3 with 5.5-inch FHD+ display, Snapdragon 845, Android 9.0 Pie surfaces in live image

After several Pixel 3 XL leaks, we have live images of the Pixel 3, thanks to a Reddit user. This reveals no-notch design, dual front speaker, glass + metal back, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and more. The Reddit user who posted the image said that the device was part of a testing program through a carrier other than Verizon, even though earlier rumors said that it will be Verizon-exclusive. Screenshots show some of the specs including a 5.5-inch (2160 x 1080) 18:9 aspect ratio display, Snapdragon 845, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, Dual 8.1MP front cameras with f/1.8 and f/2.2 aperture, respectively, and a 2,915mAh battery, slightly smaller than the 3,430mAh battery on t. It is expected to come bundled with USB Type-C headphones as we had seen in the Pixel 3 XL leak. ASUS announces new ZenBook 13, 14 and 15, ZenBook Flip 13 and 15 convertible laptops and ZenBook Pro 14 with ScreenPad

At the ongoing IFA 2018 event, Asus has announced a range of laptops including ZenBook, ZenBook Flip, and ZenBook Pro featuring the latest 8th Gen Intel Core processors. Under Zenbook series, the company has launched ZenBook 13 (UX333), ZenBook 14 (UX433) and ZenBook 15 (UX533), which as per the company is world's most compact 13.3-inch, 14-inch, and 15.6-inch laptops. All the three laptops come with frameless ASUS NanoEdge display with ultraslim bezels having a 95% screen-to-body ratio. Also, the new models features the latest quad-core 8th Generation Intel Core i7 processor with integrated Gigabit Wi-Fi optimized for Intel Wireless-AC 9560 and up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Max-Q graphics. Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 with bezel-less display, slide-out design to be announced in October

After the Honor event, in which the company announced the Magic 2 with a full-screen display with ultra narrow bezels and a slide-out design, Xiaomi Co-founder and President Lin Bin posted a photo of the smartphone and said that it will be introduced in October. This will likely be the Mi MIX 3, successor of the Mi Mix 2S, which was introduced  earlier this year. He did not reveal any details about the phone, but it will likely include 3D face unlock that was introduced in the Mi 8, large FHD+ AMOLED display with screen-to-body ratio of over 90%,  Snapdragon 845 with up to 8GB, and similar AI dual rear cameras as the Mi 8. It is doubtful if there will be an in-display fingerprint sensor, but there might be a special edition with the feature, like the  Mi 8 Explorer Edition. Apple ‘Gather Round’ special event scheduled for September 12, new iPhones, iPads and more expected

Apple has officially announced its September 12th event, after recent rumors. This year’s invite The event takes place at Steve Jobs Theater located at the company Apple Park campus. Apple is expected to announce three iPhone - 6.5-inch OLED iPhone X Plus, 5.8-inch OLED iPhone X successor and a cheaper 6.1-inch LCD model all with a notch, Face ID with gesture-based control system and new A12 processor. The OLED iPhone are expected to come with up to 512GB storage and with dual 12-megapixel rear cameras with OIS, while the LCD iPhone is said to feature a single rear camera. The 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch iPhone variants are expected come in both single and dual-SIMs (for select markets like China). Apple acquires Akonia Holographics to strengthen AR portfolio

In a recent development, the Cupertino giant Apple has acquired Akonia Holographics LLC, a startup displays for augmented-reality glasses. This acquisition is a big sign of Apple's ambition towards the wearable device based on AR technology. Founded in 2012, Akonia uses a “HoloMirror” technology that is designed to project full-color images onto the transparent glass lenses of augmented-reality headsets. According to the company, it has a portfolio of more than 200 patents related to holographic systems and materials. Back in 2012, the company raised $11.6 million in seed funding and was looking for more as well. Having said that, it is not something new for Apple since the company has a history of small firms acquisition. Facebook removes cross-posted Tweets after recent API change

Recently, some user reported that their cross-posted tweets disappeared from Facebook suddenly. However, it became clear after some that Facebook has removed all tweets that user posted through cross-posting from Twitter. LG introduces world’s first 88-inch 8K OLED TV at IFA 2018

LG has introduced world’s first 8K (7680 x 4320) OLED TV at the IFA 2018 in Berlin. It features over 33 million self-emitting pixels offering the best contrast ratio and true blacks. LG did not reveal any details about the TV, but said that it will continue to increase the OLED share in its premium TV portfolio and drive large scale consumer adoption of OLED TVs. Even though 8K TV market is not big currently, it is expected to grow to more than 5 million units by 2022. "Despite advancements in LCD field, OLED has been often referred to as the "next-generation display technology" because it emits its own light, eliminating the need for any kind of backlighting. This allows for state-of-art TVs which redefine both the picture quality and the product design. Photo and video sharing social network, Instagram has introduced new tools in an attempt to enhance the security of the community. The company has announced three significant tool: About This Account, Increasing Access to Verification and Support for Third-Party Authenticator Apps. The "About this account" section in the Instagram provides more information about the accounts with large followings. With this, you can access details like the date the account joined Instagram, the country where the account is located, accounts with shared followers, any username changes in the last year and any ads the account is currently running. The company also mentioned that, in September, user accounts with large audiences can review the information and will be rolled out to the public soon to the global community.
