Facebook today has announced that it has suspended 200 apps over data and privacy violations. It had investigated all the apps that had access to large amounts of information before Facebook changed its policies in 2014 significantly reducing the data apps could access. As the company had mentioned earlier, any app that either refused or failed an audit would be banned from Facebook. The investigation is currently two-phased; the first step in the comprehensive review is to identify every app that had access to this amount of Facebook data. And second, it said that it would conduct interviews where it has concerns and conduct on-site investigations. Facebook said that it has dedicated teams and till date it has reviewed thousands of apps and around 200 have been suspended. It again ensured that it would ban the apps that are found misusing the data and will notify people. It will also show if users have installed an app that misused data before 2015. Since the investigation is on-going, Facebook says that it will update the progress gradually. Source
