Apple iMac design patent hints at an all-glass redesign with embedded display

Apple is not a company to shy from radical design choices which makes this new patent design an actual possible future for the Apple iMac. Based on a new patent filed a few days ago, it seems like Apple may be looking into a design refresh for its All-in-one iMac computers, made with a single sheet of glass. In the patent, the front design shows the iMac with a single glass sheet with a curved lower portion on one edge residing on the desk. The curved area would be a place to hold the input devices while the larger flat area would house the embedded display. Clearly the glass would not be able to stand by itself so Apple also designed a wedge shape stand of sorts that would prop the display higher or lower according to the user preference. Another design version suggested in the patent is the possibility of introducing foldable glass at the curved section. Flattening the curve could make the Mac easier for packing or transportation, though it could also be folded up for an even smaller footprint for storage. The patent is not by any means a confirmation of the design choices that Apple will take with iMacs of ...

Google Camera update v7.3 brings tweaked menu and DND, hints at 24fps mode and Pixel 4A codename

Google continues to bring updates to its camera with new features like Do Not Disturb and slightly tweaked the menu's in the settings. But more interestingly, with an APK teardown, future features have been revealed like a 24fps mode and even the codenames for the upcoming Pixel 4A. [caption id="attachment_303340" align="alignnone" width="575"] Left: v7.2 Right: v7.3[/caption] One of the minor changes in this update is the slight tweak in the settings panels for Portrait and Camera modes. The settings have been rearranged with the flash setting at the top of the menu with the other settings retaining their original order. A cool feature in this update is the option of activating Do Not Disturb mode when using the camera. This will prevent notifications from interrupting the user when shooting a video. For most users, this option will automatically be turned on once the app updates. From the APK teardown, few more interesting updates have been noted. Videography has never been a strong suit for Pixel devices. There has been a lot of backlash from users for Google choosing to not include high frame rate options at 4k in the Pixel 3 and 4. Interestingly, Google also did not allow 24fps shooting, a mode that cinematographers ...

LG announces Android 10 update timeline for 9 smartphones

In a world where smartphone manufacturers like OnePlus, Nokia, etc. have already pushed out Android 10 software updates to their devices, we still have companies like LG that are extremely slow with theirs. LG have only now announced their roadmap for Android 10 updates in 9 smartphones, with some phones only getting it in Q4 of 2020. We do have to give some props to LG as earlier it wouldn't even bother updating their devices to the next version of Android. This change came about as it launched their dedicated global Software Upgrade Center. However, this is still an extremely slow pace compared to other smartphone companies. At the moment, only two phones are running the latest version of Android; the G8 ThinQ and Korean units of V50 ThinQ 5G, which is quite poor for a company as large as LG. In the press release, LG revealed which smartphones will get the Android update. These include the LG V40 ThinQ, international units of the V50 ThinQ, G8X ThinQ, G8S ThinQ, G7 ThinQ, K50S, K40S, K50 and Q60. Vine founder Don Hoffman launches Byte App; another 6-second video platform

Ever since Vine was shut down back in 2016, the internet has been yearning for some short form video sharing service. Now Vine's founder, Don Hoffman has announced the launch of a successor to Vine called the Byte App. It is similar to Vine in that it is a platform for shooting or uploading and then sharing 6-second videos on the internet. The Byte App, for the moment, contains the necessities of any social media app with a feed, Explore page, notifications, and profiles. It is definitely not as feature packed like the popular TikTok with no remixability, augmented reality filters, transition effects, etc. Vine, even during the height of its popularity, faced the problem of lack of effective monetisation techniques for creators on the platform. Even today, apps like TikTok and Snapchat do not offer any clear way for creators to make money on the platform. This is a key area where Byte App hopes to make a difference. They have announced an early focus on helping content creators making money, beginning with a  pilot version of their partner program which will use their revenue share + supplementing with their own funds to pay creators. Byte has already acknowledged that they are launching ...
