Airtel Wynk Tube Music and Video streaming app launched, free for Airtel users

Airtel has today launched its new Wynk Tube music and video streaming service to take on rivals like YouTube Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and others. Wynk Tube has a collection of 40 lakh songs and videos and is available only on Android, as of now and has been built keeping in mind the smartphone users in non-metros and small towns. The launch of Wynk Tube comes after the company's success of over the top(OTT) music streaming app, Wynk Music. Airtel's Wynk Tube is similar to YouTube Music offering songs and videos on its platform. Wynk Tube allows users to stream music and video of popular songs within the same interface. The app offers songs and videos in three languages i.e., Hindi, Punjabi, and Bhojpuri and will be soon available in 12 regional languages including Kannada, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil. LG Q1 2019 profits down 20.8% YoY due to weak smartphone sales

LG Electronics has reported revenues of 14.92 trillion won (US$ 13.27 billion) for the first quarter that ended March 31st, 2019, which is down 1.3% compared to the same quarter last year, as expected. It posted profits of 900.6 billion won (US$ 801.25 million), down 18.7% YoY, while net profit was down 20.8% YoY to 578 billion won. Decrease in profits is primarily due to lackluster sales in mobile business. "Although overall first-quarter revenues and operating income declined somewhat in 2019 versus 2018, the home appliance company reported record first-quarter sales and profits. Operating income was 1,090 percent higher than the fourth quarter of 2018, reflecting improved cost structures across major business units," said LG. Mobile Communications sector reported a quarterly revenue of 1.51 trillion won (US$ 1.34 billion), down 9.8% QoQ and 29.2% YoY due to sluggish demand in the smartphone market and global expansion strategy of Chinese companies. The Mobile sector posted a operating loss of 203.5 billion won (US$ 181.05  million), compared to loss of 131.8 billion won a year ago and 318.5 billion won loss it posted in Q4 2018 as a result of stronger business structure. Samsung’s Q1 2019 profits down 60% YoY, mobile profits down 39.7% YoY

Samsung has reported its earnings for Q4 2018, in which the company has made operating profit of 6.23 trillion won, down 60.1% YoY, as expected, for the January to March 2019 period. This due to drop in demand for memory chips and displays, although the newly launched Galaxy S10 smartphone logged solid sales, said Samsung. It reported revenue of 52.39 trillion won, down 13.4% YoY from 60.56 trillion won last year.  IM sector that includes Mobile Communications and Networks Businesses posted 27.20 trillion won consolidated revenue, down 4.39% YoY and 2.27 trillion won operating profit for the quarter, down 39.7% compared to 3.77 trillion won in the same quarter last year. In the IT & Mobile Communications (IM) Division, despite solid sales of the Galaxy S10, profitability in the mobile business declined YoY as competition intensified in the low- to mid-range segment. In addition, amid softer demand in the overall smartphone market, revamping of the company’s mass-market lineup led to a YOY decrease in sales volume. Amazon launched Amazon Pay UPI for seamless transactions on Android in February this year. The company partnered with Axis bank to issue UPI IDs to its customers and allowed them to link their bank account on their Amazon mobile app and make fast, easy, and secure payments directly from the bank account. Today, Amazon has launched person to person (P2P) payments through UPI for Android users with a launch offer. Amazon users can now make instant bank-to-bank transfers using UPI platform on the Amazon app and users can use this functionality to settle bills/expenses with friends, lend/return money to family, pay rents, pay for services like house-help, newspaper bills, milk subscription and more.
