Apple patents hint at more durable glass design for future iPhones and iPads

According to a report from Patently Apple, a new patent application from Apple published today hints at a more durable glass design for future iPhones and iPads. It might be a glass with “enhanced stiffness” for portable electronic devices like iPhone and iPads.  This new patent application explains it as a cover glass for Apple devices and the cover glass might be applied over a display or over the body of the device for an added layer of protection. This makes the device more durable and more resistive to cracking. In theory, it can be explained as “ribbed” design; meaning it might be a protective layer that can be designed with a crosshatch of fiberglasses, strengthening the glass and prevent cracking. The Apple patent explains how the sapphire coating could be used to improve strength. To remind you, Apple started using sapphire on iPhone camera lenses and Apple Watch, but this patent describes how a sapphire coating could be used on other devices as a cover glass and provide “sufficient stiffness.” This new patent adds to the Apple engineers efforts who have previously worked extensively on various glass designs. Whether or not this cover glass design makes it to the final stages remains to be seen. Source

Apple iPhone SE 2 with smaller notch, bezel-less design screen protector surfaces, could be announced at WWDC

Apple iPhone SE 2 has made news a bunch of times in the past, though Apple is tight-lipped about it like always, the rumor mill never rests. Back in May, we have seen the SE 2 renders with iPhone X-like bezel-less and notch display and today in what appears to be the screen protector of the SE 2 has surfaced online sitting next to the iPhone X.  iPhone SE 2 (left) iPhone X (right) screen protectors. SE appears to share the design, however smaller notch. pic.twitter.com/PCJaPkgAOR — Sonny Dickson (@SonnyDickson) June 1, 2018 Apple uses the notch area to accommodate the front camera and Face ID, it might be safe to assume that the iPhone SE 2 might also feature the Face ID unlocking system bidding farewell to TouchID. As you can see from the leaked image, the notch area is smaller when compared to the iPhone X this presumably means that the phone will have a smaller form factor. The device's notch will be around half as wide as the one on the iPhone X. It is also hard to imagine Apple would include Face ID on the iPhone SE 2  without hiking up the price significantly. With Apple including the feature on a phone that costs ...
