MIUI 9.5 brings full-screen gestures to devices with 18:9 aspect ratio – Here’s how to enable it

Xiaomi was one of the manufacturers which opted for capacitive navigation keys in favor to utilize maximum screen for display, but with 18:9 devices Xiaomi had to ditch the physical keys for on-screen navigation keys as devices with new aspect ratio have minimal bezels at front. Google said to be testing revamped Pixel launcher search bar for Pixel 3

With every major Android release, Google revamps its Pixel launcher to accommodate the device and the new design language better. With Android P right around the corner, we now are seeing a slightly revamped Pixel launcher that will ship with the Google Pixel 3. The new revamped launcher is found by modifying the existing Pixel Launcher APK from the Google Pixel 2 to enable some hidden, in-development features of the launcher. The Pixel launcher's search bar is now split into two; one for search and one with Google mic icon. We're not sure what the purpose of this change or it is part of the rumored Material Design 2 set to be unveiled during Google I/O 2018. A similar thing happened during the Pixel 2, and the modded APK with bottom search bar was out before its release thanks to many APK modders. XDA the sole power behind the new finding has mentioned that it will soon publish an update to the modded app with these new changes available as a toggle. The in-development parameters of the latest official APK are a giveaway to prove that this revamped launcher is indeed for the Google Pixel 3. Source

Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, Note8 Always On Display update brings GIF support

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are the company's latest flagships and these phones come with some impressive features that aren't present on the 2017 flagships. However, today the company is pushing one such feature to S8 and Note8 flagships. Samsung has released an update to the Always On Display (AOD) on the Galaxy S8, S8+, and Note8 that adds support for using GIF. The update lets you add a little action to the otherwise-dull clock and time Always On Display. Samsung allowed you to add themes and photos, but GIF is the latest update. You can either chose from a list of Samsung defaults or upload one from Gallery. Since we are talking about GIF, it shouldn't be long and you can trim it from the gallery. The GIF won't play for long, it just plays once when you turn the display off. If you wish to see the GIF again, just double-tap-on the screen. This limitation is put forth to reduce battery consumption. To get the new Gif animation feature, you will have to update the Always on Display from 'My Apps' and once you’ve updated, you will need to select the particular clock style that shows images on the display. ...

Apple details eGPU support in macOS 10.13.4, recommends AMD Radeon graphic cards; no NVIDIA support

Apple this week rolled out the macOS 10.13.4 that introduced official support for eGPUs (external graphics processors) on Thunderbolt 3 Macs. In the release notes, Apple has published a detailed support document that outlines how eGPU support works and provides graphics card and chassis recommendations that can be used with your Mac.  The company has listed several AMD video cards recommendations including Radeon RX 570 and RX 580, the Radeon Pro WX 7100 and 9100, and finally the Radeon RX Vega 56, 64, and Vega Frontier Edition Air. Apple has said that the support is not limited to any specific card vendor, as long as the card complies with the reference specification. However, the list does not include any cards from NVIDIA which does have the "web driver" for its PCI-E that it updates after every macOS revision. Also, the cards that were supported during the initial testing of eGPU support are no longer supported, such as the AMD RX 560. Mac users will have to use the Thunderbolt 3 since the support for earlier versions is discontinued in the beta period. Apple also lets users connect more than one eGPU, but should use direct connections instead of daisy-chaining. The company also mentioned that all have 87W of charging power available ...

Google shutting down goo.gl URL shortener in favor of Firebase Dynamic Links

Google's URL shortener; goo.gl was introduced back in 2009 and today the company has announced that it is shutting down the services and is replacing it with Firebase Dynamic Links (FDL). FDLs are smart URLs that can send existing and potential users to any location within an iOS, Android or web app. Users who have never created short links before today will not be able to create new short links via the goo.gl console. Google will allow you to create new short links Firebase Dynamic Links or other alternatives like Bitly and Ow.ly. Google mentioned that all the existing goo.gl links will continue to redirect to the intended destination and users can manage them via the goo.gl console for the next year; until March 30th, 2019. Post the one-year deadline, all the links will still work, but you won't be able to access the console itself. The existing short links will not be migrated to the Firebase console, however, you will be able to export your link information from the goo.gl console. Google will also discontinue the APIs on March 30th, 2019. As for developers, FDL short links will automatically detect the user's platform and send the user to either the web or your app, whichever is appropriate. Source
