OnePlus 6 will have a notch, 90% screen-to-body ratio and retain headphone jack: Carl Pei

2018 has been the year of Android phones with iPhone X-style top-notch and for many obvious reasons, there has been a negative fuss surrounding it claiming to be a blunt rip off of the iPhone X.  Truth be spoken, there is no better alternative to bring in more screen real-estate without including a top notch. Yes, Apple has included a bunch of sensors including the Face ID in the top notch, and, Android-powered smartphones just have the regular sensor and front camera, but there is no better way to bring in an impressive screen-to-body ratio without designing it with a notch. Cut to the chase, the upcoming OnePlus flagship (for now dubbed as the OnePlus 6) is also said to feature the notch. However, the company says that it will be more than just another iPhone copycat. Following the negativity, Android phones with notch-designs have been receiving since the MWC 2018 launches, OnePlus has reached out to The Verge to make its point and why it thinks the change in design is a good thing. The company is far from backing out with the notch design at this stage and OnePlus like every other phone maker is opting to go this design route and is ...

Facebook reportedly delays Home-Speaker launch over user-data privacy violation crisis

Facebook was expected to introduce the smart Home-Speaker at the F8 event in May but now it looks like the company has delayed its plans amid data-privacy practices and the outrage surrounding it, according to industry sources.  The company's new hardware products, connected speakers with digital-assistant and video-chat capabilities are currently under review to ensure that they make the right trade-offs with the user data. The new hardware products are a part of the Facebook’s plan to become more involved with users’ everyday social lives taking advantage of the artificial intelligence much like how Amazon is doing with its Echo devices. With user-data privacy violations, FTC investigation and outrage among common users now is the wrong time for Facebook to make an announcement of the same. As expected, Facebook declined to comment on the reports. However, Facebook is still planning to launch the products later this year when the crisis gets over. It is expected that the company would reveal new, more restrictive rules about what kind of information Facebook can collect on their users. Source

Google Chrome to get support for casting local files soon

Google Chrome casting functionality has the biggest shortcoming; it simply cannot cast local files be it audio or video. It works great for casting online videos, a tab, or even your entire screen, but fails to reciprocate the same with local audio or video file natively. However, Google today announced that it is testing the ability to cast local files directly within the browser. For now, the feature is only available in Chrome's beta channel, and the option will show up when you select 'Cast' in the browser menu and choosing 'Cast file' from the dropdown list. It will then ask you to choose the file, be it audio or video and stream it to any Cast-enabled device. However, the functionality is only available for a small set of users. There's still a way to force the experiment on your browser, and it's fairly straightforward. All you got to do is just enable the 'features=EnableCastLocalMedia' switch and restart the browser. However, the process for doing so varies depending on the operating system. Source
