iPhone X sales to be weaker than expected, 6.1-inch iPhone with LCD display coming in fall: KGI

KGI Analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo predicts lower than estimated sales of the iPhone X in China, and he believes that Apple might ship around 18-20 million units in the current quarter, which is significantly lower than the 20-30 million range. The primary reason for the downfall of sales is because of the longer replacement cycles in China. In the latest report, Kuo reaffirms the launch of three iPhone models in 2018 including a 6.1-inch, 6.5-inch OLED ‘iPhone X Plus, and successor to the iPhone X in the fall. He further added that Apple might completely stop the production of the current iPhone X altogether when production of the new 2018 models ramp up. The reason behind not so strong reception in China is because customers are holding on to their existing phones for a longer time, as well as the notch screen design has turned away potential Chinese customers. The Chinese users usually prefer large screen devices, and with the notch, the design of iPhone X might affect the real screen estate. According to report, Apple will ship around 18 million iPhone X units in Q1 2018 and about 13 million in Q2 2018. KGI expects that the iPhone X might end its run around mid-2018 with around 62 million units ...

Instagram testing text-only stories and screenshot alerts

Instagram is on the verge of introducing two new features; 'text-based stories', and stories screenshot alerts which are currently under testing. Text-based stories are not new, they are available on WhatsApp and Facebook. The text-based stories feature will be available as another option at the bottom of the Stories camera, next Boomerang and Rewind. You have the ability to chose from several fonts and backgrounds. Instagram by default selects a plain background and it also lets you upload your own image to the background. The stories-based feature was in testing since December, but it was limited to Japan, but now it looks like the feature is widespread. Another feature that is being spotted is the ability to send notifications when someone takes a screenshot of your story. The company used to send notification for direct messages previously, but now it looks like the feature is expanding to stories as well. However, Instagram will notify you once about the alert when you take a screenshot of a story, but from the second time, the alert will be sent directly. Source

WhatsApp v2.18 beta brings notification channels on Android 8.0 Oreo

Android 8.0 Oreo bought a cool new feature called notification channels that lets you decide how individual notifications from the same app appear and sound, and vibrate, or not, on your phone. WhatsApp has now rolled out Notification Channel on Android 8.0 Oreo, and the feature was spotted in V2.18.18 beta release. Though it is also possible that the feature might have been rolled out in the previous versions, there's no way to tell. WhatsApp now supports 10 notification channels; group notifications, message notifications, chat history backup, critical app alerts, failure notifications, media playback, Uncategorized, other notifications, sending media, and silent notifications. Each of these settings can be further controlled individually, so you can set priorities to the notifications that you receive from the app. You can even entirely disable or control single notifications by just holding down the notification and then you'll see the type there, and you can instantly disable it. And, if you don't want to disable completely, you can change its priority by tapping All Categories, which takes you to the settings where you can choose what you want to do with it. Another important addition to recent WhatsApp update is the ability to switch from voice to video call. So, instead ...
