Portronics, a digital portable product manufacturer has launched their new ILUMI multi-coloured, multi-purpose lamp that doubles as a Bluetooth speaker. ILUMI gives the option to change the colour of the lamp with 5 choices and has a 2000 mAh in-built battery. The LED lamp is equipped with a 3 Watt Speaker and a 2 Watt LED lamp with three levels of brightness controls. The controls work via a simple touch on the mesh-top of the device that cycles through 5 different colours. Portronics has also built in an option to synchronise the lights to the music. The in-built mic and Bluetooth speaker make this lamp capable of taking calls hands free. ILUMI is made out of high quality ABS plastic and houses a 2000 mAh battery which gives the ILUMI a claimed battery life of 5 hours. Apple supplier Salcomp buys defunct Nokia Chennai Plant, to invest $300 million in five years

It has been over 5 years since Nokia's Sriperumbudur plant shut down production due to a tax dispute. Now, Finnish based firm Salcomp, manufacturer of chargers/adapters for mobile phones and other electronics for companies like Apple, has bought the defunct plant for about Rs. 215 crores. Salcomp plans to begin operations at the plant by March next year, and ramp up exports from there to about $2 billion by investing $300 million over the next five years. Salcomp already operates two units in the Sriperumbudur SEZ zone having close to 7000 employees with the new factory said to add over 10000 jobs. Apple's components is about 60% in the 1.1 million sq ft plant — and the balance would be for others including Foxconn, Xiaomi, Vivo and OPPO, according to ET report. These decisions add to the larger strategy of Apple in expanding production in India for the local and global markets. Apple is gradually shifting away from China due to the ongoing US-China Trade war with other major Apple parts manufacturers, Wistron and Foxconn already ramping up production in India. Source

Google Shopping to integrate Translate and Google My Business early next year for Indian users

Google has introduced new integrations for the Google Shopping experience for Indian users, namely Google My Business and Google Translate integration. These changes are aimed at making Google Shopping more accessible for new small to medium businesses and non English speaking Indian users. With a majority of shopping in India still happening offline, Google aims to change that by make it easier for local retailer to create an online store through Google My Business. Retailers will be able to connect with the millions of shoppers searching for their products online by posting photos of their in-store products, which Google will automatically connect as product listings on Search and in the Google Shopping tab. Google is also integrating Translate into their Shopping tab as well as the Shopping home page for Indian languages. Google claims that almost 500 million non-English-speaking users will come online and that the Google Translate integration will enable them to more easily find products in their own language. Translation will also be taken care of from the merchants side seamlessly.
