Intel hit with class-action lawsuits over Meltdown and Spectre Security Vulnerabilities
On one hand, Intel is having a hard time fixing the Meltdown and Spectre Security Vulnerabilities that affected processors from the past 10-15 years, the company is now hit with three separate class-action lawsuits by plaintiffs in California, Oregon, and Indiana who are seeking compensation. These security vulnerabilities could allow hackers to steal sensitive data and the fix as reported earlier might lead to a performance drop. However, Intel then quickly responded saying that any drop in performance is negligible and Google-backed by saying the fix implemented on its affected servers has seen a negligible impact on performance. However, the plaintiffs who filed the legal lawsuit didn't satisfy with Intel explanation. The first class action complaint was filed January 3rd in United States District Court for the Northern District of California and the other two lawsuits according to Gizmodo, were filed today; one in the District of Oregon and another in the Southern District of Indiana. All the three lawsuits cite the Intel's failure to timely public disclosure and the supposed slowdown of purchased processors. Though Intel claims that the performance drop is negligible and says that the performance penalty is not as significant as the reports suggest.
