Huawei P30 Pro confirmed to feature periscope zoom camera and enhanced low-light mode

Huawei's MWC 2019 event was centered around the Mate X foldable phone and now the company is focusing on the P30 series which is set to unveil on March 26th. Talking about P30, we already know it will come with Quad rear cameras, teardrop notch. And now, Huawei's VP of Global Product Marketing, Clement Wong, confirmed the top-end P30 will indeed feature a periscope-style zoom camera for "super-zoom" capabilities. However, the exact zoom level wasn't revealed. Since the last year's P20 Pro featured 3X optical and up to 5X hybrid zoom, so a significant upgrade beyond that figure is likely in the new model. The widely rumored figured is 10X zoom, though Wong wouldn't confirm this, instead said to draw our own conclusions from a photo posted by Huawei CEO Richard Yu in recent weeks. The shot, published to Chinese social network Weibo with a watermark cheekily confirms a quad-camera setup, clearly shows details of the lunar surface. Wong tells that the pic was achieved on-device, handheld, with no additional help. It means that we can expect the P30 Pro to feature a zoom mechanism quite unlike the fixed lens setup of the P20 and Mate 20. Wong claims that the P30 Pro's camera would offer ...

Google Glass second-gen with Snapdragon 710, integrated LTE modem, USB Type-C surfaces

Google is said to be working on another Google Glass. Following up on the original Explorer Edition, the company rolled out its first Enterprise Edition of Glass publicly in mid-2017. The new edition Google Glass was spotted passing through the FCC and was also surfaced on the Geekbench benchmark, confirming reports.  The device is apparently powered by a Snapdragon 710, an integrated LTE modem, support for Bluetooth 5.0 and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. As for its camera, it is expected to pack a 32MP sensor with 4K recording ability at 30FPS or 1080p at 120FPS. There’s also 3GB of RAM, and it apparently runs Android Oreo. The original Google Glass used a magnetic pin-based system for connecting its charging/data cable. Now, it has a single USB-C port on the rear of the device. The original EE had model number A4R-GG1, and this one has A4R-GG2, as revealed by the FCC last year which makes us believe that it is legit. At this moment, it is not clear where these photos came from, but from the look of it, they seem to be a lot like standard issue FCC photos. It is also unknown when Google would introduce the new Google Glass publicly, but stay tuned. Via

Google introduces new shoppable ads on Google Images

A recent study shows that Google is the first place shoppers in the USA go to discover or find a new brand or product. Google says that it has seen that about 50% of online shoppers said images of the product inspired them to purchase, and increasingly, they’re turning to Google Images. For this reason, Google is investing in shopping solutions across more of our properties, like Google Images. It is also introducing new shoppable ads on Google Images as another way to help users connect with consumers. This new format enables you to highlight multiple products available for sale within your sponsored ad among Google Images results. The company is currently testing this on a small percentage of traffic with select retailers, surfacing on broad queries like “home office ideas”, “shower tile designs”, and “abstract art”. Google also mentioned that it will continue to roll this out to more categories across more retailers over the next few months. Advertisers have been benefiting from Showcase Shopping ads, which lets you promote your brand and products through beautiful imagery, descriptions, and relevant promotions. It is also bringing Showcase Shopping ads to Google Images as well, offering shoppers a more inspirational and rich visual experience. Retailers can provide product data to ...

Samsung patent hints at Wireless TV without cables

How good it would be if there's a system for TVs where you do not see and/or need cable anymore. For this, Samsung is said to be working on a solution in the background, in the form of a wireless power transceiver. Samsung, back in 2018 has filed a patent with the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) for a wireless power transceiver and display apparatus with the same. The patent was published on February 28, 2019, and describes a method to power the Samsung TV wireless. Normally this could be made possible by using a wide coil. However, TVs have become thinner in recent years, so there is simply no room in the thin housing to implement such a wide coil. However, Samsung patent reveals a television that is equipped with a wireless power transceiver in the form of a bar, which is mounted horizontally behind the television. The wireless transceiver is magnetic and has a groove in the middle for the solenoid coil. In addition, the power transceiver is provided with a double coil, which is wound in opposite directions. The power transceiver can function as a wireless power receiver to generate power through magnetic forces emitted by a separate wireless power transmitter. Speakers are also placed ...

Samsung starts mass production of first 28FDS-based eMRAM

Samsung Electronics has announced that it has commenced mass production of its first commercial embedded magnetic random access memory (eMRAM) product. It is based on the company’s 28-nanometer(nm) fully-depleted silicon-on-insulator (FD-SOI) process technology, called 28FDS. Samsung’s 28FDS-based eMRAM solution offers unprecedented power and speed advantages with lower cost. Since eMRAM does not require an erase cycle before writing data, its writing speed is approximately a thousand times faster than eFlash. Also, eMRAM uses lower voltages than eFlash, and does not consume electric power when in power-off mode, resulting in great power efficiency. Since an eMRAM module can easily be inserted in the back-end of the process by adding the least number of layers, it has less dependence on the front-end of the process for easy integration with existing logic technologies, such as bulk, fin, and FD-SOI transistor. By combining with 28FD-SOI for better transistor control and minimizing leakage current through body-bias control, Samsung’s eMRAM solution will provide differentiated benefits for a variety of applications including microcontroller unit (MCU), internet of things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EB14K8Gq5-w Ryan Lee, vice president of foundry marketing at Samsung Electronics said: We are very proud of this achievement in offering right embedded non-volatile memory (eNVM) technology after overcoming complicated ...
