Facebook now allows you to block background location tracking on Android

Facebook has announced an update to the Facebook app's location controls on Android to give people more choice over how it collects location information and how it stores the data it collects. The company clarified that it is not changing users previously made choices nor it is collecting any new information as a result of this update. The new background location control on Facebook for Android lets users to chose if they want to collect location information when they’re not using the app. For example, when users choose to use Nearby Friends, a feature that lets friends share their locations with each other, they give Facebook permission to access their location even when they’re not using the app. Prior to this change, users using these features were asked to enable Location History. If you enabled this setting, two things happened; you would share your location when you weren’t using the app and you would allow Facebook to store a history of your precise locations. With this update, you’ll have a dedicated way to choose whether or not to share your location when you aren’t using the app. For people who previously chose to turn their Location History setting “on,” the new background location setting ...

JEDEC announces LPDDR5 RAM module for smartphones

JEDEC Solid State Technology Association has finally announced the publication of JESD209 LPDDR5. It will eventually operate at 6400 MT/s I/O rate, 50% higher than the first version of LPDDR4, which will significantly boost memory speed and efficiency for a variety of applications including mobile computing devices such as smartphones, tablets, and ultra-thin notebooks. Additionally, LPDDR5 offers new features designed for mission-critical applications such as automotive. Developed by JEDEC’s JC-42.6 Subcommittee for Low Power Memories, LPDDR5 is available for download from the JEDEC website. To achieve significant performance improvement, LPDDR5 architecture was redesigned; moving to 16Banks programmable architecture and multi-clocking architecture. LPDDR5 introduces two new command-based operations to improve system power consumption by reducing data transmission: Data-Copy and Write-X. The Data-Copy command instructs the LPDDR5 device to copy data transmitted on a single I/O pin to the other I/O pins. The Write-X command instructs the device to write all-ones or all-zeros to a specific address, eliminating the need to send data from the SoC to the LPDDR5 device. Reducing data transmission with these new commands will help reduce overall system power consumption. To address the need for data reliability in adjacent markets such as automotive, LPDDR5 introduces the support of Link Error Correcting Code (ECC) on the interface ...

Huawei P30 Lite with triple rear cameras surfaces in case renders

Huawei is confirmed to announce the P30 series on March 26th, while we wait for the launch, the design of the P30 Lite which is the entry-level variant of the P30 series has been leaked through case maker Spigen. Surprisingly, the design of the P30 and P30 Pro were leaked through the Spigen cases a couple of weeks back.  Based on the case renders, it is now confirmed that the P30 Lite will come with a triple-camera setup for the rear. Given the current flagship trend, it is no surprise. The rear camera setup might likely include an extra ultra-wide-angle lens including the primary lens and a monochrome or telephoto lens. The camera array is still aligned vertically but the LED flash is placed right between the second and third camera. Since this is an affordable model, the P30 Lite still retains a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor instead of using an in-display unit. As for the front, the P30 Lite seems to come with a FullView display that has a tiny notch, in-line with other P30 models. Wonder why Huawei is not going the punch-hole route as seen on the Honor View20. The P30 Lite has two cut-out-holes at the bottom hinting at a traditional ...
