Lu Weibing appointed as president of Redmi and Xiaomi VP ahead of Redmi Note 7 event today

Xiaomi is all set to introduce its new Redmi smartphone at an event in China today in a couple of hours. Ahead of the launch, the company introduced the new Redmi by Xiaomi logo yesterday, today the company's has confirmed that the phone will be called the Redmi Note 7 and the CEO Lei Jun has announced the appointment of Lu Weibing as the president of the new Redmi brand and vice president of Xiaomi. Lu Weibing was the former president of Gionee and he stepped down  in 2017 and went on to establish a venture to replace the company’s overseas OEM arm. At CES 2019, Google has introduced a preview of Google Assistant Connect which is a platform for device manufacturers to bring the Google Assistant into their products in an easy-to-implement way. Google also announced that it is bringing the Assistant to the Sonos One and Sonos Beam. Google said that it is working with even more brands to launch new smart home devices this year, including select Whirlpool connected appliances, GE’s smart microwave, and August security products.  The company said that it will share more details about Assistant Connect and how device makers can gain access to the technology later this year.
