Sony Bravia A8F 55-inch OLED TV Review

Last October, we reviewed Sony's Bravia A1 OLED television and found it to be one of the most gorgeous panels we'd taken a look at. Fast forward to summer 2018 and Sony has an all new model out. Or does it? Read on for our review of the Sony Bravia A8F 55-inch OLED TV.  Design 2017 Bravia A1 KD-55A1 Pictured The Bravia A1 KD-55A1 we reviewed last year was a statement piece. An extension of the monolithic design language, heads up all you could see was the display and nothing else. The A8F is a bit more practical in its design. This time around, a simple and basic stand is built under the television instead of the hinge like mechanism at the back of the A1. The barely there metal stand helps keep the television straight but doesn't add much if any height to the screen. You'll notice that we had to place the television on top of an additional table to accommodate the sound bar. For all practical purposes, kept on a table, the A8F would continue be a gorgeous piece of glass and screen with little else to distract you. Wall mounting the screen is the best option. Some rumors across the Internet so far have been pointing towards the OnePlus 6T ditching the much celebrated 3.5mm audio jack. According to Carl Pei, Co-founder of OnePlus, removing the headphone jack has freed up more space, allowing them to put more new technology into the product, expected to be the In-display fingerprint scanner. Moreover, the company is likely to add USB Type-C to 3.5mm audio jack converter in the box. Google Dragonfly censored search engine said to link searches to phone numbers in China ; faces backslash from employees

It is a known fact that Google is said to be working on a censored search engine in China. Now according to a new report, the company has built a prototype of a censored search engine for China linking users’ searches to their personal phone numbers, making it easier for the Chinese government to monitor people’s queries. The search engine is codenamed Dragonfly. It is designed for Android devices and would remove content deemed sensitive by China’s ruling Communist Party regime, such as information about political dissidents, free speech, democracy, human rights, and peaceful protest. Google compiled a censorship blacklist that included terms such as “human rights,” “student protest,” and “Nobel Prize” in Mandarin. Concerns from groups say that beyond the censorship, user data stored by Google on the Chinese mainland could be accessible to Chinese authorities, who routinely target political activists and journalists. The search engine would be operated as part of a “joint venture” partnership with a company based in mainland China. Furthermore, the venture would have the ability to update the search term blacklists. This raises new questions about whether Google executives in the U.S. would be able to maintain effective control and oversight over the censorship. That doesn't end here, a list of seven employees said to have quit ...

Chrome 70 beta brings fingerprint login support for Web Authentication on Android and Mac, enables TLS 1.3 and more

Chrome has been updated to V70 beta as the V69 is finally stable. This beta is not as big as the previous version but has security-focused features. Chrome 67 for desktop has added web authentications which will allow sites to use fingerprint or a Bluetooth key as the sole login method. This API is now enabled by default on Android. From now when you visit a site that supports web authentication Chrome will prompt you to use a security key. Google says that fingerprints will also work. Though there are many ways for web pages to read barcodes, or identify faces with the help of machine learning, since they have an effect on performance, Google is adding its own shape detection functionality to Chrome. The Shape Detection API is present in Chrome 70 as an "origin trial," meaning it's not ready for widespread use. The API can detect three types of objects in images; faces, barcodes, and text. However, for now, compatibility varies from platform to platform, because this requires the host operating system to have the proper object detection APIs. Furthermore, the Transport Layer Security, or TLS, is the protocol that allows data to be transferred over the internet securely. Chrome 70 includes support for version 1.3 ...

Get Android Pie-like Navigation gestures on any device

Apple introduced gestures based navigation system with iPhone X last year in September, Android device manufacturers didn’t want to remain behind in the race and so various OEMs started adopting the trend earlier this year and enabled gestures based navigation on taller devices with 18:9 aspect ratio to make single hand operation more comfortable. Google also announced new system navigation gestures with Android Pie Beta back in May to simplify multitasking experience, but gestures based navigation is available only in devices with 18:9 aspect ratio. In case you have a device with a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio and wish to experience gesture-based navigation, you need to explore various apps available on Google Play Store. Developers at XDA have created an app called Navigation Gestures which enables gestures on any device without rooting or flashing zip by custom recovery. Install the app from Google Play Store here, note that this is the free version and it has limited customization options if you wish to get access to all the feature you might consider purchasing premium add-on package which costs Rs 100.
