Weekly Roundup: Samsung Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6+, LG G7 ThinQ, Smartron tbook flex and more

This week Samsung introduced the Galaxy A6 and A6+ smartphones in the A Series, LG introduced its flagship LG G7 ThinQ smartphone, Coolpad launched the Note 6 budget smartphone, and more that happened this week in our weekly roundup. Samsung  announced the Galaxy A6 (SM-A600F) and Galaxy A6+ (SM-A605F) smartphones in the ‘Galaxy A Series’ after several leaks. Both the phones come with Super AMOLED Infinity displays with 18.5:9 screen ratio, but the A6 comes with a 5.6-inch HD+ screen while the A6+ features a 6-inch FHD+ screen. Both the phones have a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, and the A6+ also has a secondary 5-megapixel rear camera with Live Focus mode that lets you control the depth of field and bokeh effect before or even after the shot is taken. The Galaxy A6 has a 16-megapixel front camera and the A6+ features a 24-megapixel front camera, both with LED flash. The Samsung Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6+ come in Black, Gold, Blue and Lavender colors and will roll out from early May starting in select European, Asian and Latin American markets, before rolling out globally to additional markets throughout South Korea, Africa and China. Apple shutting down Texture’s Windows magazine app on June 30

Apple had acquired the Next Issue Media LLC’s digital magazine service Texture back in March and it is also said to be planning to launch a News subscription service in 2019. Today the company announced that it is shutting down Texture’s Windows magazine app at the end of June. Texture is informing its users about the shutdown this week through emails and a note inside the app. The message reads, "this app will stop working and will no longer be available in the Microsoft Store.” However, the support for Android, Amazon Fire, and iOS apps will continue. With Texture's windows app not seeing any update for quite some time, this move is a long time coming. Since Texture is not available on the web, subscribers might have to pick another compatible device to continue using Texture services. It might be possible that Apple would create a cross-platform way to access all of the content it distributes, but for now, there is no news on such service just yet. Adobe Photoshop Express gets a handful of new features in the latest update to its Android app. It brings automatic perspective correction, vignette effects, and more. The vignette effects help in adjusting the brightness around the edge of a photo and also adds a nice dramatic or nostalgia look to the picture.  The automatic perspective adjustments help in producing natural results for the photos that were taken with a tilt. You can also import multiple images at once and set any picture you're working on as your device's wallpaper or a contact or profile photo from the share menu. Gboard 7.2 beta for Android brings the ability to create own GIFs using camera, new sticker gallery

Google is now rolling out a new beta update to the Gboard for Android which brings the ability to create own Gifs using the camera, new sticker gallery. The GIF creation feature was spotted in previous Gboard APK being tested internally and is now finally making its way to the beta. To create your own Gif, you have to open the GIF interface in the keyboard, and hover to "My GIFs" tab to create one. Gboard will ask for your permission to access camera for the first time and once you allow, you will get a full-screen camera interface to create your own Gif which can be three seconds long. To make the Gifs even more expressive, Google is also including filters. You can save the Gifs that you created in the My GIFs tab and re-use it later as well. However, for now, this feature seems to be limited to selected devices or users but should roll out soon. Lenovo Mirage Solo standalone Daydream VR headset and Mirage VR streaming camera go on sale

Back in January, Lenovo at the CES had introduced the Mirage Solo standalone Daydream VR headset, first VR180 consumer camera; Mirage VR streaming camera. Today the company has announced the that it is now on sale starting in the U.S. The Lenovo Mirage Solo Standalone Daydream VR sports a 5.5-inch display with QHD resolution display and it gets it's from the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 VR platform. It has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It packs an impressive 110-degree field of view and comes with 4000mAh battery promising up to 7 hours of battery life on a single charge. The Lenovo Mirage Solo will have access to the entire Daydream catalog of over 250 apps, including Street View, Photos, YouTube, and Expeditions. Furthermore, it is also the first VR headset to use the full potential of motion-tracking technology, called WorldSense, on Google’s Daydream virtual reality platform. Vivo Y75s with 5.99-inch FullView display, 16MP front camera and Y83 with 6.22-inch display with a notch get certified

Vivo Y75, a mid-range smartphone in the ‘Y series’ was introduced China a few months back, now the company is all set to introduce the Y75s , which has been certified by TENAA and has also surfaced on the official Vivo site. This has similar design and specifications of the V7+, but this has a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 16-megapixel front camera, both with LED flash. It will also come with Game mode and Jovi AI Assistant. Samsung Galaxy S8 Lite with 5.8-inch FHD+ Infinity display, Snapdragon 660 gets certified

Samsung SM-G8750 surfaced in benchmarks last month that revealed Snapdragon 660, 4GB of RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo for the phone, and according to the rumors it will be called Galaxy S8 mini. Now the phone has been certified by TENAA in China that confirms 5.8-inch FHD+ 18:9 display, 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front camera, glass back and a fingerprint next to the camera on the back, same as the Galaxy S8. It also has a dedicated Bixby button. LG K30 with 5.3-inch display, fingerprint sensor, 4G VoLTE announced

LG has announced K30, the company's latest smartphone in the 'K Series' in the U.S. for T-Mobile. It has similar specifications as the LG X4+ that was introduced in Korea recently, including a 5.3-inch HD screen, Snapdragon 425 SoC , Android 7.1 (Nougat), 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 5-megapixel front camera and a fingerprint sensor on the back. Apple iPhone X world’s best-selling with 16 million shipments in Q1 2018: Report

Earlier this week IDC reported  that  global smartphone shipments reached a total of 334.3 million units during the first quarter of 2018. Now Strategy Analytics has reported that global smartphone shipments reached 345 million units in Q1 2018. Despite the claims of being on the costlier side, the Apple's iPhone X becomes the best selling model with shipping touching an impressive 16 million units during the quarter. As for the Android side of things, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus retained the world’s top-selling Android smartphone models position. The top-six most popular models together accounted for 1 in 7 of all smartphones shipped worldwide during the quarter. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A shipped 5.4 million units and grabbed the fifth place and accounted for 2% market share worldwide in Q1 2018. A good 5.3 million Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus units were shipped in Q1 2018 and restricted its place to sixth place and accounted for 2% market share worldwide in Q1 2018. Samsung's flagships started shipping towards the end of the Q1 and yet it grabbed the top spot. Smartron launched the t.phone P smartphone focused on battery  recently. We already brought you the review of the phone, here we have the battery life test results of the phone. It packs a huge 5000mAh built-in battery, has a 5.2-inch HD display, is powered by Snapdragon 435, has 3GB of RAM and runs on Android 7.1.1 (Nougat). Check out the test results below. Talk Time It lasted for 50 hours and 7 minutes in our talk time test and topped the charts. 3G Browsing It lasted for 10 hours and 3 minutes in our 3G browsing test.
