YouTube web player update adapts to different aspect ratios
YouTube today has announced it is pushing an update to the YouTube video player on the desktop. The player now automatically adapts to provide the best viewing experience based on the video’s size and your screen size. After Android and iOS, this update is now coming to the desktop. YouTube notes that that non-wide-screen videos like vertical and square sized-videos would show black bars alongside the video, making the video really small. However, the new update moves away from the needing black bars. This change aligns the video watching experience on the desktop and mobile. What basically this does is that it removes the 16:9 frame around every video, thus allowing them to appear larger and adjust to different window sizes accordingly. The removal of the black bar around on every video has been removed, and it's especially noticeable on vertical videos. The change is now going live to everyone. Source
