Samsung Galaxy M10, M10s and M20 discontinued in India
Samsung launched its then online-only Galaxy M Series smartphones in January 2019 and has rapidly expanded the lineup, with the recent launch being the Galaxy M21. Now, 3 smartphones in the Galaxy M lineup - Galaxy M10, Galaxy M10s, and Galaxy M20 have been removed from Samsung India's official website. The three smartphones - Galaxy M10, M10s, and M20 are also not included in the revised smartphone price list that was released recently, suggesting discontinuation in India and probably soon in other markets as well. Samsung India website now only lists Galaxy M21, Galaxy M31, Galaxy M30, Galaxy M30s, and Galaxy M30. To recall, the Galaxy M20 comes with a 6.3-inch FHD+ infinity-V display and is powered by the latest Exynos 7904 octa-core 14nm processor, while Galaxy M10 has a 6.2-inch HD+ infinity-V display and is powered by Exynos 7870 14nm octa-core processor. These run Android 8.1 (Oreo) with Samsung Experience version 9.5 UX. The Galaxy M20 comes with a fingerprint sensor as well as Face Unlock, while the Galaxy M10 lacks the fingerprint sensor. Both the phones feature a 13-megapixel primary rear camera with f/1.9 aperture and a secondary rear camera has a 5-megapixel 120-degree ultra-wide lens. Both these feature dedicated dual SIM and microSD ...
Google will require A/B Seamless System updates for phones launching with Android 11
Google introduced seamless updates back in 2016 with Android 7.0. Any Android smartphone that features Seamless System updates will have two partitions; A and B and when a firmware update arrives, it is downloaded and installed on the second inactive partition. Once the update is downloaded and installed, the phone will boot into the newly updated firmware. The key motive behind this feature is user can continue using the phone during an OTA (over-the-air) update installation process with very little downtime. Moreover, it also reduces the risk of errors on a new OTA firmware and if something does happen during the update process, the phone will boot into the old partition, until the new update is tried again. After Google, LG, HTC, Motorola, OnePlus, ASUS, Sony and others introduced seamless updates, but Samsung, OPPO, HUAWEI and Vivo still don't use this so updates are done through a dedicated updater in a recovery process making the users wait for several minutes before it is complete. Google won't allow this from Android 11 so all the Android 11 devices will have to support seamless updates in devices launching later this year or early next year. This is confirmed by the latest commit to the AOSP ...
Samsung patents a four-sided curved display with border-less design
Smartphone manufacturers have come a long way in innovation, especially in terms of displays. Bezel-less screens have been there for a while and it is improving further, like the waterfall display on the Vivo NEX 3S 5G, OPPO's implementation, and more. Now, Samsung has patented a waterfall display with a borderless design that could eventually be implemented in future smartphones. Samsung applied for this design patent back in July last year at the Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration and it has been included in the World Intellectual Property Office last month. The patent shows off a display that is curved on all four sides and this time, the metal frame is extended at the corners so that the phone becomes more resistant to drops. The renders based on the patent don't show off the front camera and as there will be no room for a pop-up camera, we can expect an under-display selfie camera, if not a punch-hole camera. The physical ports, buttons haven't been shown on the patent and is expected to be revealed once the design is finalized and applicable. We might see this design being implemented on the Galaxy S21 Series which will be unveiled next year. We should know ...

OPPO Air VOOC 40W wireless charger gets certified by the WPC, could be introduced along with Ace2
Last year OPPO joined the Wireless Power Consortium, a group of companies for developing and promoting the Qi wireless charging standard. Now a new OPPO Wireless Charger (OAWV01) has been certified by the WPC. This reveals that it will be a 40W charger and has the Qi version number v1.2.4. It shows a white with gray finish, a button in silver finish, place to keep the phone and a LED notification light in white that is hardly visible. On the front it says Air VOOC, which should be the name of the charger. On the bottom there is OPPO branding, vents and a fan to keep the charger temperature low. It also has OPPO and Qi branding, and confirms 40W wireless charging support as well as up to 65W wired charging (9V-2.5A / 5V-6A / 10V-6.5A). 3C certification already confirmed that Ace2 will support fast charging up to 65W, same as last year's Reno Ace. Zhang Jialiang, head of OPPO’s VOOC Flash Charge division recently confirmed that the company’s 40W wireless fast charging tech will be available commercially this year, so we can expect the OPPO Air VOOC support in the Ace2 that will be introduced on April 13th. Will it be faster ...

There were multiple events and conferences that were supposed to be held during the first half of 2020 but were postponed, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of their response, Microsoft has gone ahead and announced that all their events till July 2021 will be digital-only. The decision to go digital-only was shared via email to all Microsoft MVP's that stated, "In light of the challenges presented by COVID-19, Microsoft has been closely monitoring the developing global situation and re-assessing the overall company-wide in-person event strategy. As a company, Microsoft has made the decision to transition all external and internal events to a digital-first experience through July 2021." The events that will be moving to digital include Microsoft Ignite in September 2020, Microsoft’s presence at Computex 2020, Microsoft's presence in CES 2021 and the Build 2021 event that is planned for April or May 2021.
