Google Chrome brings global browser media controls to Windows, Mac and Linux
Media controls on Chrome browser have now become easier with a new update. With many users these days having multiple tabs open on their browsers, it sometimes difficult to figure out where the audio is coming from. Now users will be able to control audio and video at all times in the browser. With the update, users will see a media icon next to their account in the top right corner of their browser. When the browser begins playing audio or video, clicking on the icon will open up a small window that shows what is playing along with its artwork, which website is playing the audio or video and media controls right below it. Earlier, Chrome did have the functionality of showing a little loudspeaker icon next to the tabs name in the top bar when the tab is playing audio. However, if they needed to pause the audio, users would need to select the tab (which can get difficult with lots of open tabs), find the video playing and then control. Now users will have global media controls at all times no matter which tab is playing audio. The feature was already in present in Chrome OS since August but ...
POCO will make a comeback as independent brand in India
POCO is the brand that remained in news for the entire 2019 without launching any smartphones, POCO fans kept asking company and company officials about POCO F1 successor. Built on 'Everything you need. Nothing you don't.' mantra, POCO F1 was a hit amongst gamers and power users. Last month, POCOPHONE Global head Alvin tweeted that the users will hear more from POCO in 2020, but later removed the tweet. There have been a lot of speculations going around POCO as a sub-brand for the last few months. The company last night took down the profile and cover pictures on all the social media platforms to give users a hint that some big announcement can be expected soon. Xiaomi has finally broken the silence as Xiaomi India head, Manu Kumar Jain has confirmed that POCO is making a come back and users will see new POCO products in India in 2020. In a video, Manu spoke about POCO and explained why the company didn't launch a new product under the POCO lineup. Manu said, in 2019 the company tried to figure out how to improve and bring more such products under the POCO brand as the expectations from POCO as a sub-brand were very ...

New European Union law may force USB-C connectors for all smartphones
The European Union (EU) is considering a rather interesting rule to enforce a mandatory, universal charging connector for future smartphones. If passed, this will likely pave the way for USB-C to become the default connector port for every smartphone sold everywhere, including Apple's iPhone. With the advent of USB-C in everything, it will also finally mean the end of the aging USB Micro-B connector. The micro-B connector has been in use for over a decade when the age of smartphones arrived and has been slowly dying since the advent of the more durable and better USB-C connector. Almost all flagship and mid-range phones have moved on to USB-C but the micro-B still exists in some low end budget smartphones. Another notable company that would object to this ruling is Apple as it has famously stuck with its propriety Lightning Connector as its primary charging port in the iPhone till date. There have been rumors of Apple switching to USB-C for the 2020 iPhone and some analysts have predicted that Apple will remove the charging port all together, in favour of wireless charging. If the resolution does get passed, it will be very interesting to see how Apple will react. The EU Commission had ...
Amazon will double down on Prime Video investments in India: CEO Jeff Bezos
Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos yesterday at the Prime video event announced that the company will double down on investment in the company's streaming service in India. He also said that Amazon Prime Video's performance is brilliant in India. “It’s working great. The number of hours Prime Video is watched in India in the last two years has grown by six times. Prime Video is working well all over the world, and there is no place it is doing better than in India. It’s incredible,” said the CEO. Earlier this week at the SMBhav Summit in New Delhi, Amazon announced that it plans to invest US $1 billion to digitally enable micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and traders across India, including manufacturers, resellers, local offline shops, and brands. It aims to digitize 10 million MSMEs with this investment, helping Indian businesses grow by selling online worldwide and enabling US $10B in cumulative exports by 2025. As part of this effort, Amazon will establish Digital Haats in 100 cities, villages, and communities to help businesses integrate into the digital economy. The Digital Haats will provide services like e-commerce onboarding, imaging and cataloging, warehouse space, logistics, digital marketing, and compliance.
