Global wearable shipments reach 84.5 million units during Q3 2019, up 94.6% YoY; Apple and Xiaomi continue to lead: IDC

International Data Corporation (IDC) released global smartphone shipments and India smartphone shipments during Q3 2019 recently, and now it has released the report for worldwide wearable shipments during the 3rd quarter of 2019. According to the report, global wearable device shipments reached 84.5 million units during Q3 2019 with a 94.6% increase year-over-year and is a new record for shipments in a single quarter. Out of the 84.5 million units, Hearables alone accounted for almost half the market and it was followed by smartwatches and wrist bands. In the list of top 5 wearables companies by shipment volume, market share, and YoY growth, Apple leads with 29.5 million shipments and a massive 195.5% YoY growth. It is followed by Xiaomi with 12.4 million shipments, 66.1% YoY growth, Samsung with 8.3 million units, 156.4% YoY growth, HUAWEI with 7.1 million units, 202.6% YoY growth, and Fitbit with 3.5 million units and 0.5% YoY growth. Other companies account for 23.8 million units with 40.4% YoY growth. Redmi AI Speaker Play with built-in Bluetooth Mesh gateway and Redmi Router AC2100 announced

Xiaomi's Redmi brand just announced its new Redmi K30 5G smartphone and RedmiBook 13 laptop. Alongside this, Redmi has also introduced its new ecosystem products - Redmi AI Speaker Play and Redmi Router AC2100. The Redmi AI Speaker Play sports a front-facing audio output design and it is a 5W 1.75-inch speaker with a 350cc large sound cavity with CrystalWave technology. The AI Speaker Play comes with Bluetooth Mesh gateway which means that it can also control Bluetooth-equipped devices and can stream content from users’ smartphones or any other device. It also supports the 3rd generation of XiaoAi AI Assistance and is the first XiaoAi AI Speaker to feature a male voice option. With the voice command functions, users can use this speaker as a control center to command IoT devices within their reach. Pixel feature drop brings more photo controls, easier Duo calls, automatic call screening and more to the Pixel 4

Google is releasing a bunch of new features and updates to Pixel users with the Pixel feature drops via software updates. The first feature drop will include updates to Google Photos, Duo, Call Screen, improved memory management and more. Google promises it will continue improving the experience on Pixel phones with more Feature drops in the future. The first major update is to Google Photos, specifically its editing tools. Pixel users can now make any photo into portrait photo by blurring the background post-snap. This allows users to have a soft background blur to any photo that they took years ago or if they forgot to turn portrait mode when clicking the photo. The second feature is an update to Call screening that's available in the US. Google Assistant will automatically pick and screen calls before it interrupts you. In case a robocall is detected, the call is blocked and if its simply an unknown number, Google will give helpful context about who is calling and why after a few rings. Nokia 7.1 Android 10 update starts rolling out

HMD Global has started rolling out Android 10 update for the Nokia 7.1 smartphone, which makes it the third Nokia phone to get the update after the Nokia 8.1 in October and Nokia 9 PureView last week. It was launched last year running Android Oreo, and got the Pie update soon after. Google Maps incognito mode rolls out for iOS, Timeline Bulk delete coming to Android next month

Recently, Google Maps enabled incognito mode for Android which stoped searches or places you navigate to within Maps from being saved to your Google Account. Google is now rolling out this feature for iOS user and will soon roll out bulk delete options of your Timeline for Android by next month. Incognito mode will work the same on iOS as it does on Android. Using Incognito mode on your phone will not update your Location History, so the places you go won’t be saved to your Timeline. Along with this, the places you search of navigate to will not be saved to your Google account. For Android users, Google is now going to give the option for bulk deleting items from your Timeline. Timeline was built as a tool that uses your Location History to help you easily remember places and routes you’ve visited. With bulk delete, users can quickly delete multiple places by selecting all of it or part of your Timeline by date range. Realme X50 5G will be the company’s first 5G phone with dual mode 5G, dual punch-hole display [Update: Snapdragon 765G confirmed]

Update: December 10, 2019 — realme China CMO Xu Qi Chase just confirmed that the X50 5G will be powered by Snapdragon 765G SoC. The image also shows the dual punch-hole screen clearly on the top left corner. Earlier: realme already confirmed that it will launch a 5G phone this year, and recently at the realme X2 Pro launch event Madhav Seth, Chief Executive Officer, Realme India confirmed that realme will be one of the first brands to launch Qualcomm SoCs with built-in 5G in India in 2020. Today, realme China CMO Xu Qi Chase has confirmed that realme will launch the X50 5G phone in China soon. This comes after the realme X2 Pro was launched in China and Europe in October and in India last week. Xiaomi's Redmi brand just announced the Redmi K30 5G and 4G versions at an event in China, as it had promised. It packs a 6.67-inch Full HD+ 120Hz LCD screen with 4.38mm, dual-punch-hole screen with 91% screen-to-body ratio, thanks to 4.25mm ultra-narrow bottom frame. The K30 5G is the world's first phone to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 765G with support for built-in 5G stand alone and non-stand alone (SA/NSA) sub-6GHz networks. The Redmi K30 4G is powered by Snapdragon 730G instead of Snapdragon 765G and lacks 5G support.
