HUAWEI smartwatches, speakers and more to run HarmonyOS in 2020

HUAWEI, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is planning to load its propriety HarmonyOS to more devices in 2020 that won't include its smartphones. HarmonyOS was developed as a possible alternative to Android as HUAWEI face trade restrictions from the US government for technologies from there. Wang Chenglu, president of the HUAWEI consumer business group’s software division gave an interview to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily newspaper during the opening of HUAWEI's global flagship store in Shenzhen. According to Wang, HUAWEI still prefers Android on its phones and tablets, and is not looking to replace it with HarmonyOS yet. However, HUAWEI is looking into loading HarmonyOS into other devices such as smartwatches, speakers and virtual reality gadgets. The first product to come out with HarmonyOS is its HONOR vision smart TV that was release back in August. In August next year it will be made open source, as the company had promised at the launch. Depending on the new OS's success, we can expect its smartphones to run the propriety OS in the future if the trade restrictions continue. Source | Via

2020 iPhone models may have larger battery with new battery protection circuits

ITM Semiconductor, a South Korean circuit manufacturer who began supplying battery circuit modules for the iPhone 11 is supposedly going to be supplying newer battery protection circuits for the upcoming iPhone 12. The newer module will likely enable the iPhone 12 to have a larger battery capacity due to the smaller size of the protection circuit. Currently, ITM semiconductor supplies protection circuits for the iPhone 11 along with Taiwan’s Compeq and Japan’s MinebeaMitsumi. However, for the iPhone 12, ITM semiconductors is rumoured to supply its custom Protection Module Packages that are almost 48% smaller. This will provide more space for the iPhone 12 which Apple could fill up with more battery capacity. [caption id="attachment_299921" align="alignnone" width="574"] Image via: ITM Semiconductors[/caption] To meet the demand, ITM semiconductor will soon finish setting up its third plant in Vietnam, which will be solely supplying parts for the iPhone. The protection circuit will ensure that the iPhone does not over-charge or over-discharge, providing safety to the battery enclosed inside. Source 1, 2
