Telegram v5.9 update brings ultra-lightweight high-quality animated stickers

Telegram has received an update on all the platforms that has brought support for new animated stickers. The company has created the ultra-lightweight high-quality animated stickers using Lottie-based .TGS format, in which each sticker takes up about 20-30 Kilobytes — six times smaller than the average photo. These animated stickers consume less battery than GIFs and run at a smooth 60 frames per second, says the company. It said that artists can create new sets and share them with Telegram users by uploading them to @stickers so that everybody to use. "Like its static predecessor, the Telegram animated sticker format is likely to become the new industry standard in messaging," added the company. Telegram's artists have created a few sample sets ranging from Rambunctious Rodents to Sentient Snacks that are available in the 'Trending' section of the sticker panel. You can also type in a relevant emoji, and Telegram will immediately suggest matching stickers, making it the  fastest way to find a sticker that fits your mood. The desktop version has received support for strikethrough and underline formatting. Animated Stickers are already available in the latest v5.9 update on Android, iOS and desktop. Source
