Twitter has been testing several features to make Twitter more conversational. Now it has confirmed that it is testing a new 'subscribe to conversation' that would let you follow a thread without liking or replying to it. This button is present on the top right corner of threads. Clicking it will notify you when new tweets are added to the thread. Since this doesn't require you to reply, like the tweet or having to join in the conversation, this could add a bit of anonymity.
