Google addresses serious Chrome security problem with latest update
A few days back, Google reported a couple of vulnerabilities --one affecting Google Chrome and another in Microsoft Windows that were being exploited together. In an attempt to curb it down, Google released an update for all Chrome platforms on March 1; this update was pushed through Chrome auto-update. The Chrome auto-update has already updated Chrome to 72.0.3626.121 or later. The second vulnerability was in Microsoft Windows. It is a local privilege escalation in the Windows win32k.sys kernel driver that can be used as a security sandbox escape. Google also said in a blog, "We strongly believe this vulnerability may only be exploitable on Windows 7 due to recent exploit mitigations added in newer versions of Windows. To date, we have only observed active exploitation against Windows 7 32-bit systems." "The unpatched Windows vulnerability can still be used to elevate privileges or combined with another browser vulnerability to evade security sandboxes" In an attempt to mitigate the fix, the company adviced users to consider upgrading to Windows 10 if they are still running an older version of Windows, and to apply Windows patches from Microsoft when they become available. Previously, the company has been criticised for failing to respond to reports in time. One such issue is doxxing. For the uninitiated, the act of doxxing includes revealing someone's personal information to the Internet without consent from a particular person. This could result in harassment both online and offline. While the microblogging platform still struggles to find a balance between the right to free speech and harassment, it is a positive ...

Google rolls out Gmail’s ‘Confidential Mode’ for enterprise users
In general, the control over your email is lost once you click on send! Having said that, Gmail’s new Confidential Mode tries to give you a bit of control back by offering message expiration dates. What is Confidential mode? With confidential mode, it’s easier to protect sensitive content in your emails by creating expiration dates or revoking previously sent messages, and removing options for recipients to forward, copy, print, and download. To make it more simple, this mode lets you add 'expiration date' to emails, post which the email is no longer viewable by the recipient. This mode helps reduce the risk of confidential information being accidentally shared with the wrong people. Additionally, you can also require additional authentication via text message to view an email. In case of Admin can opt-in to the beta by going to the Admin console and navigating to Apps > G Suite > Settings for Gmail > User settings. Here they will be able to select the option to Enable confidential mode. At present, the Gmail confidential mode will: Allow users to set an expiration date for messages or revoke access at any time. Disable options to forward, copy, print, and download the email body and attachments. Allow users to ...

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro Review: All-rounder at a killer price
Xiaomi is known for its value-for-money (VFM) devices. Last year's Redmi Note 5 Pro surprised everyone, but the Redmi Note 6 Pro that came late last year was not a major upgrade. The latest Redmi Note 7 Pro is a major upgrade in terms of display, design, processor, camera, and what not. The specifications look great on paper for the price. Let us dive into the review to find out what the device has to offer. Display, Hardware and Design The main change in the Redmi Note 7 Pro when compared to the Note 6 Pro is its 19.5:9 aspect ratio 2.5D curved glass screen with gentle rounded corners. The 'Dot Notch' is not intrusive compared to the wide notch on the Note 6 Pro. It has a large 6.3-inch Full HD+ display with a pixel resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels and a pixel density of about 409 PPI. The display is bright, thanks to 450 nits brightness and 1500:1 contrast ratio and the colors are vibrant since it has 84% of NTSC color gamut. Sunlight legibility is good, since it has a Sunlight display that uses hardware-level technology to adjust the contrast of each pixel in real time, so images are less affected ...
