Conversations with Qualcomm – How 5G became a reality in 2019
"5G is not a buzzword anymore, it is a reality. 5G is here!" is what Ignacio Contreras from Qualcomm told me when I said 5G is a big buzzword at the Mobile World Congress 2019. Truth be told, he was right. There were some 5-7 devices all primed and ready to go to market, all with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem and the latest 855 chip inside. So, how did it all of this happen so fast? How did Qualcomm manage to bring 5G into this world way before they said they would. And what is 5G in 2019 all about? I'll try to explain what I could gather from my conversations with Qualcomm at MWC 2019, read on. Most of the major manufacturers have already announced their devices which will launch within this year, in countries like Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia and so on. This year, as consumers, the people in these countries will be able to enjoy 5G, the latest standard of connectivity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIVDBGLFa-Q At a fundamental level, 5G is going to become the fabric of connectivity for not just our personal devices, like smartphones or laptops but impersonal devices too, like for example cars, external speakers which are personality ...

Ottomate, which is India's home-grown smart consumer electronics brand has launched its first product; theOttomate Smart Fans. It is powered by the latest Qualcomm BLE 5.0 chipset with CSR Mesh and operate through Ottomate Smart App. The Ottomate app and the ‘Smart Mate’ remote allows users to choose across manual mode and a range of pre-set modes - namely Otto Mode, Breeze Mode, Turbo Mod, and Master Switch. In the manual mode, users can set the fan to the exact speed they need using the 'MY AIR TECHNOLOGY.' Turning on the OTTO mode uses its digital sensors to adjust the fan speed to the ambient room temperature and humidity. The Breeze mode pre-set changes the fan speed cyclically to create a natural breeze effect, thus creating a pleasant outdoor vibe even while you sit indoors. The TURBO mode is for instances when even the max speed of the fan even feel enough, allowing the fan to surge 10% higher than the maximum. Finally, the Master Switch, which uses the highly innovative CSR Mesh over the BLE 5.0 chip, is a one-touch way to switch off/on all the Ottomate devices in the home, making it a super-convenient feature, especially at night. The Ottomate smart fan starts at ...

Worldwide smartphone shipments expected to drop third consecutive year in 2019: IDC
According to IDC, the smartphone market continues to be challenged and 2019 is projected to experience its third consecutive year of declining shipments. The worldwide smartphone volumes are forecast to fall by 0.8% in 2019 with volumes dipping to 1.39 billion. However, the smartphone market will begin to pick up the momentum this year with a YoY growth of 2.3% expected in the second half of the year. Over the long term, smartphone shipments are forecast to reach 1.54 billion units in 2023. 2019 is expected to witness a new innovation with the introduction of foldable devices and 5G smartphones. Marketing buzz around 5G is in its early stages but is expected to ramp up quickly. While the use cases for upgrading to a 5G device/service remain unclear, it is evident that after 2019, the adoption will begin to attain significant numbers. According to IDC, it expects 1 out of 4 smartphones shipped globally in 2023 would be 5G. Ryan Reith, program vice president with IDC's Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers said: The biggest question that remains unanswered is what will bring the smartphone industry back to growth. There is no question industry growth has been down for reasons that have already been identified – longer replacement ...
Facebook details plans for ‘privacy-focused’ revamp
With increasing usage of social media across the globe, concerns regarding privacy are at its peak. With Facebook owning the majority of social media apps worldwide including Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has put forward his privacy vision where the main focus revolves around user privacy. He says that he plans to build the platform the way it has developed WhatsApp: focus on the most fundamental and private use case -- messaging, make it as secure as possible, and then build more ways for people to interact on top of that, including calls, video chats, groups, stories, businesses, payments, commerce, and ultimately a platform for many other kinds of private services. He assures that this privacy-focused platform will be built around several principles including Private interactions, End-to-end encryption, Reducing Permanence, Safety, Interoperability, and Secure data storage. Over the next few years, Facebook plans to rebuild more of its services around these ideas. Mark Zuckerberg expects future versions of Messenger and WhatsApp to become the main ways people communicate on the Facebook network. It is focused on making both of these apps faster, simpler, more private and more secure, including with end-to-end encryption. Facebook says that it wants to give people a choice, so they can ...
