Google shutting down Fit on the web on March 19th, to focus on Android and Wear OS
Google back in August has completely overhauled Fit with new metrics, the Material Theme on Android, and a prominent role in Wear OS. However, to keep its focus mainly on the mobile, Google is now killing the service's desktop web client in March. Google with a large banner on fit.google.com has revealed to the world, its intentions. Google is shutting down the desktop client to “focus efforts on adding new capabilities that enhance the mobile and smartwatch Google Fit experience.” The website will continue to operate until March 19th. This move doesn't come as a surprise considering, the revamp did not extend to the web and it still retains the original Material design and red heart icon. But lacks Move Minutes and Heart Points. Step count, distance, and activities still appear online after the redesign. Besides showing metrics and recent activities on a larger screen, Google Fit on the web excelled at showing a long-term monthly view of your activity. Users could also log weight and other activities that were not recorded. For users of the phone and Wear OS app, Google’s commitment to “adding new capabilities” is promising. Recent updates added several home screen widgets and breathing exercises on wearables. Google also hosted a New Year’s challenge to encourage users to be ...

Samsung completes development of new mmWave RFICs and DAFE ASICs for 5G Base Stations
Samsung Electronics has announced that it has successfully completed the development of its mmWave Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits (RFICs) and Digital/Analog Front End (DAFE) ASICs, supporting 28GHz and 39GHz bands for 5G Base Stations ahead of MWC 2019. Samsung’s new RFICs and DAFE ASICs enables about a 25% reduction in size, weight and power consumption for 5G base stations when compared to the previous iterations. 5G base stations using these new chipsets are more efficient in operation and roll-out. To achieve ultra-fast data speeds, 5G base stations use almost one thousand antenna element and several RFICs to utilize the mmWave spectrum. Samsung’s new RFICs using 28nm CMOS semiconductor technology operate on bandwidths that have been expanded to a maximum 1.4GHz, compared to 800MHz for previous RFICs. The size of RFIC is reduced by 36% and the overall performance is enhanced by decreasing the noise level and improving the linearity characteristics of the RF power amplifier. Samsung has developed RFIC solutions for 28GHz and 39GHz and plans to commercialize additional RFICs for 24GHz and 47GHz this year. The company has also developed its own DAFE as an ASIC, low in power consumption and small in size. The DAFE is essential for digital wireless telecommunications as it provides ...
