Apple iPad Mini 5 with A10 Fusion chip, 7.9-inch display, familiar design said to go official in first half of 2019
Apple is said to launch new iPad models in the first half of 2019, according to Taiwanese supply chain website DigiTimes. One of these models is expected to be called the iPad Mini 5, however, reports suggest that the tablet might have a similar design as the iPad mini 4. Furthermore, reports also suggest that iPad Mini 5 will have identical dimensions as the iPad mini 4, including a thickness of 6.1mm. This also hints that the tablet might sport a 7.9-inch display. It will likely retain a lighting connector, TouchID, and 3.5mm headphone jack. One design change expected is the repositioning of the rear microphone to a top-center repositioning of the rear microphone to a top-center position in line with the sixth-generation iPad. What is unclear at this moment is whether the iPad Mini 5 would be powered by the A10 Fusion chip seen on the iPhone 7 series and sixth-generation iPad or an A10X Fusion chip in line with 2017 iPad Pro models and the Apple TV 4K. It's also unclear if the iPad mini 5 would support the original Apple Pencil, but second-generation Apple Pencil support seems to be ruled out. In another note, among the supply chain partners for iPhones, Taiwan's PCB makers have suffered significantly from the devices' latest wave of lackluster sales, ...

Apple hit with lawsuit over two-factor authentication on iPhone / Mac taking too much time
A class action suit has been filed against Apple accusing of the company's two-factor authentication taking too much time out of a user's day when it is needed, and since it can't be rolled back to a less safe login method after 14 days. The suit, filed by Jay Brodsky in California alleges that Apple doesn't have user consent to enable two-factor authentication. Furthermore, once enabled, two-factor authentication "imposes extraneous logging in a procedure that requires a user to both remember password; and have access to a trusted device or trusted phone number" when a device is enabled. The lawsuit claims that a software update has enabled two-factor authentication on or around September 2015. However, neither macOS El Capitan nor iOS 9 released in the time frame had mandated two-factor authentication nor implemented it without an explicit and multiple-step opt-in procedure requiring the user to consent. But is required to leverage on some of Apple's services, like Home Sharing and HomeKit Hubs. Brodsky alleges that the email that Apple sends after two-factor authentication is enabled is insufficient to warn the user that the setting is irrevocable. According to the suit, when two-factor authentication is demanded, the process that follows takes between two and five minutes. The process ...

Fitbit fitness tracker with large display, rugged design surfaces
Fitbit hasn't launched a fitness-focused fitness band targeted at the youth in recent times. The Fitbit Ace was launched last year and remains the only wearable the company has that’s targeted more towards the youth. However, the company is looking to change it pretty soon with a new fitness tracker that’s kid-friendly. The upcoming Fitbit fitness tracker has surfaced online and this might be placed in a new line-up of Fitbit, given that the Ace is a smart band rather than full fitness tracker with a display. It comes with a larger screen and a more friendly design. It will be available in two colors; blue and pink. It comes with a rugged design and bright colors to carter the younger audience. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of details at the moment, but if we were to guess, it features long battery life, tracking for a variety of activities and some form of water resistance. The exact launch date and line-up it will be placed remain a mystery, so we will have to wait for a while. Source
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active specs surface – 1.1-inch AMOLED display, Exynos 9110, Bixby Reminders and more
Samsung is known to be working on Gear Sport successor codenamed Pulse. The upcoming Galaxy Watch Active smartwatch which is expected to be its name said to skip the company's bezel ring and Samsung has also reduced the display size. The Galaxy Watch Active will feature a 1.1-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 360×360 pixels. With removed bezel ring and small display, it is confusing since Samsung wants users to adapt to touch interactions on such a tiny display. Thanks to the reduced display size, the company has also reduced the battery to 236mAh compared to 300mAh battery on the Gear Sport. Since there is only one mode; SM-R500 is in works, there's no larger model with a bigger display or battery. That’s not surprising as even the Gear Sport had just one variant. Speaking of batteries, the Galaxy Watch Active will come with a redesigned Charger; it is a small pad now, so the watch will sit on it horizontally instead of at a 90-degree angle. This is more convenient and consistent, as the watch needs to be placed on a flat surface to use its reverse wireless charging feature. The Galaxy Watch Active will be water-resistant up to 50 meters. Other specs ...
Xiaomi patent hints at smartphone with edge-to-edge display, dual rear cameras
Xiaomi's new design patent was published in the Global Design Database of the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) on February 5th. The patent hints at a full-screen smartphone with a dual camera on the back. Furthermore, the display features a rounded off corners on all four sides. Much like the Samsung S-series flagships, the edges are slightly curved including the top and bottom. There is no button on the device, there's only a USB Type-C connection. There is no chin at the top and bottom, meaning the selfie snapper must be placed within the display, just like the fingerprint scanner. With Xiaomi acquiring Meitu selfie app maker back in 2018, the company would definitely bundle selfie specific features. When and whether Xiaomi would introduce this futuristic phone with no buttons and all-screen design is unclear at the moment. But with Vivo and Meizu introducing similar no button smartphone, Xiaomi wouldn't delay the launch much longer. Apart from no button phone, Xiaomi is also working on its foldable smartphone which surfaced in the hands-on video a while back. It is likely that Xiaomi would reveal more about the phone at the MWC 2019 event. In addition, the company might introduce its first 5G smartphone, it is a 5G ...
