Fitbit fitness tracker with large display, rugged design surfaces
Fitbit hasn't launched a fitness-focused fitness band targeted at the youth in recent times. The Fitbit Ace was launched last year and remains the only wearable the company has that’s targeted more towards the youth. However, the company is looking to change it pretty soon with a new fitness tracker that’s kid-friendly. The upcoming Fitbit fitness tracker has surfaced online and this might be placed in a new line-up of Fitbit, given that the Ace is a smart band rather than full fitness tracker with a display. It comes with a larger screen and a more friendly design. It will be available in two colors; blue and pink. It comes with a rugged design and bright colors to carter the younger audience. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of details at the moment, but if we were to guess, it features long battery life, tracking for a variety of activities and some form of water resistance. The exact launch date and line-up it will be placed remain a mystery, so we will have to wait for a while. Source
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active specs surface – 1.1-inch AMOLED display, Exynos 9110, Bixby Reminders and more
Samsung is known to be working on Gear Sport successor codenamed Pulse. The upcoming Galaxy Watch Active smartwatch which is expected to be its name said to skip the company's bezel ring and Samsung has also reduced the display size. The Galaxy Watch Active will feature a 1.1-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 360×360 pixels. With removed bezel ring and small display, it is confusing since Samsung wants users to adapt to touch interactions on such a tiny display. Thanks to the reduced display size, the company has also reduced the battery to 236mAh compared to 300mAh battery on the Gear Sport. Since there is only one mode; SM-R500 is in works, there's no larger model with a bigger display or battery. That’s not surprising as even the Gear Sport had just one variant. Speaking of batteries, the Galaxy Watch Active will come with a redesigned Charger; it is a small pad now, so the watch will sit on it horizontally instead of at a 90-degree angle. This is more convenient and consistent, as the watch needs to be placed on a flat surface to use its reverse wireless charging feature. The Galaxy Watch Active will be water-resistant up to 50 meters. Other specs ...
Xiaomi patent hints at smartphone with edge-to-edge display, dual rear cameras
Xiaomi's new design patent was published in the Global Design Database of the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) on February 5th. The patent hints at a full-screen smartphone with a dual camera on the back. Furthermore, the display features a rounded off corners on all four sides. Much like the Samsung S-series flagships, the edges are slightly curved including the top and bottom. There is no button on the device, there's only a USB Type-C connection. There is no chin at the top and bottom, meaning the selfie snapper must be placed within the display, just like the fingerprint scanner. With Xiaomi acquiring Meitu selfie app maker back in 2018, the company would definitely bundle selfie specific features. When and whether Xiaomi would introduce this futuristic phone with no buttons and all-screen design is unclear at the moment. But with Vivo and Meizu introducing similar no button smartphone, Xiaomi wouldn't delay the launch much longer. Apart from no button phone, Xiaomi is also working on its foldable smartphone which surfaced in the hands-on video a while back. It is likely that Xiaomi would reveal more about the phone at the MWC 2019 event. In addition, the company might introduce its first 5G smartphone, it is a 5G ...
Google Maps AR navigation beta starts rolling out
Google at the I/O developers conference had showcased the new augmented reality feature for Google Maps which is aimed at providing users with directions from your phone's camera in real-time. Though the company is still testing the feature, it is rolling out to a handful of users. Though it might not be users primary turn-by-turn option, it still is a step towards the right direction for Google and Maps platform. The app picks up the location via GPS, quite obviously and then uses Street View data to narrow it down to your exact location. Once the location is pinned down, it will display arrows and directions on the phone's screen. The app doesn't seem to let users use the camera persistently and insists you put down the phone after a short while and then displays a regular map interface. In Google Maps, locations will feature a new “Start AR” button — alongside the traditional “Directions.” The company has been experimenting with the user interface where users will follow a line on the map closely and that an animated guide will keep them glued to the screen. However, the initial interface which is now rolling to a selected few users would change and the ...

Facebook acquires visual shopping startup GrokStyle Inc
Facebook has announced that it has acquired visual shopping and artificial intelligence startup GrokStyle Inc. in a move to bolster the social-media company's own AI work. GrokStyle’s technology is integrated into popular Ikea’s mobile app. When a user takes a picture of a piece of furniture, the technology would match it to similar products that could be purchased online. On the company's website, GrokStyle said it is "winding down" its business and it is "moving on as a team" along with its technology. The company didn’t disclose that it is joining Facebook. Facebook can use GrokStyle's AI technology and employees to bolster its own efforts in the field. The startup’s specific technology also makes sense for Facebook Marketplace, the company’s service for buying and selling items from other Facebook users on its social network. Earlier this month, the company bought the team behind blockchain technology company Chainspace for an undisclosed sum. Facebook spokeswoman Vanessa Chan said in a statement said: We are excited to welcome GrokStyle to Facebook. Their team and technology will contribute to our AI capabilities. She declined to disclose a purchase price. In a blog post, GrokStyle said: We are incredibly proud of what we have built -- and believe we have only scratched the surface of ...
Google’s new job listing hints at possible Smartwatch
Android Wear announcement lead to rumors suggesting that Google might be building its own smartwatch for the platform. Reports about a possible Pixel Watch started in mid-2018, however, Google mentioned that it is not coming anytime soon. However, according to the new job listing, it looks like the company may actually building its own wearable devices. The company has posted a job listing on Google Careers site seeking a Vice President of Hardware Engineering for Wearables. The current Wearable product of Google is the Pixel Buds and it seems unlikely that the company would want a new vice presidential candidate for another earbud product. The company has another job listing for 'Wearable Design Manager' but the description is vague. It reads: "As the Design Manager of the Wearables design team within the award-winning Google Hardware Design organization, you will be a critical leader and contributor to guide the efforts in defining and evolving what it means to hold ‘Google in your hand’." Google acquired wearable technology from Fossil last month. It wasn't clear if the company still planned to launch its own devices, but with this job listing, it looks like Google is getting serious about the prospect. The Job description reads: As the VP ...
Sprint files lawsuit against AT&T over its ‘5G E’ branding
AT&T back in December started repacing 4G LTE indicator with '5G E' logo phones and networks that use 4G LTE Advanced technology. However, Sprint which is another major carrier in the US has filed a lawsuit in federal court, seeking an injunction to prevent AT&T from using 5G E tags on its devices or advertising. Sprint said it commissioned a survey that found 54% of consumers believed the "5G E" networks were the same as or better than 5G, and that 43% think if they buy an AT&T phone today it will be 5G capable, even though neither of those things are true. Sprint further went on to claim that AT&T is damaging the reputation of 5G. This is similar to what AT&T and T-Mobile did back then with 4G branding on HSPA+ networks even before LTE became widely available. Responding to the lawsuit, AT&T in a statement said: We understand why our competitors don't like what we are doing, but our customers love it. We introduced 5G Evolution more than two years ago, clearly defining it as an evolutionary step to standards-based 5G. 5G Evolution and the 5GE indicator simply let customers know when their device is in an area where speeds up to twice as fast ...
Opera browser for Android beta gets built-in free VPN
Opera has announced that it is testing new in-built browser VPN for its Android browser. Beta users are the first ones to test the VPN. It is a free, unlimited and has no-log VPN feature. When on public Wi-Fi, Just tap on “Settings” in your Opera browser and activate VPN. Opera says that the reason for including this built-in VPN in the Android browser is because it gives you that extra layer of protection. The desktop version of the Opera browser already offers unlimited free VPN, and Android is now joining the list. Once you enable the feature, the VPN will replace your IP address with a virtual IP address. This makes it harder for websites to track your location and identify your device. The in-built VPN is a no-log service, meaning Opera will not collect any information that travels through the network servers. This will keep your private data protected from intruders when you’re connected to a public Wi-Fi network. You can download the Opera browser beta app directly from Play Store to try the VPN feature. Opera in a blog post said: Opera has a tradition of innovation. We are always thinking about new features that can enhance your online experience. Most recently, we introduced the ...
