WhatsApp uses machine learning to detect bulk messaging and automated behaviour
WhatsApp has outlined how it is tackling abuse and spread of fake news on the messaging platform. The company said that they have built a machine learning system to detect users with abusive behavior and those sending bulk messages and creating multiple accounts with the sole purpose of spreading false and abusive content. WhatsApp also assured that such accounts are barred from the platform at various stages; at the time of registration while messaging, and when they are reported by others, the company’s executives said. The company bans a total of around two million accounts on its platform each month. The machine learning system used by WhatsApp leverages on the past learnings with such accounts and specific scenarios that engineers followed to eventually take down some accounts. The company looks at various factors including the IP address of a user, and the country of origination for phone numbers they use to sign up for the service, how old is the account, whether that account started to send a lot of texts as soon as it was created. Samsung Galaxy S10e with 5.8-inch display with in-screen camera, side-mounted fingerprint sensor surfaces in renders [Update: More images]
Update - February 6, 2019: More renders of the phone have surfaced showing the fingerprint sensor on the right side. Live images have also surfaced online revealing the S10e and the punch-hole display. Earlier: After Samsung Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10+, renders of the Galaxy S10e has surfaced. Similar to the other two, this comes with in-screen camera, but this has smaller 5.8-inch flat screen, unlike the curved screen on the S10 and S10+. Another change is the side-mounted fingerprint sensor on the right side that doubles up as a power button, instead of in-display fingerprint sensor in the bigger models. We had already seen a similar setup on the Galaxy A7 (2018), but the placement is a bit higher on the S10e since the volume rockers have been moved to the left. There is also a bixby button below that. The Galaxy S10e is said to come only in 6GB RAM with 128GB version in Black, Green, White and Yellow colors at the launch with Blue to follow later. It is rumored to be priced at €750 ($859 / Rs. 61,400 approx.) in Europe. Source 1, 2 | Via

Google releases Password Checkup Chrome extension to detect vulnerable username and passwords
Google has introduced a new Password Checkup Chrome extension to help keep your password safe. Whenever you sign in to a site, Password Checkup will trigger a warning if the username and password you use are one of over 4 billion credentials that Google knows to be unsafe. You can download it from Google Chrome webstore. Password Checkup was designed jointly with cryptography experts at Stanford University and is ensuring that it never learns your username or password and that any breach data stays safe from wider exposure. However, the Password Checkup is an early experiment at the moment. Since alerts prompt users to be extra careful, Google is focusing only on warning you about unsafe usernames and passwords. Google says that it designed Password Checkup to prevent an attacker from abusing Password Checkup to reveal unsafe usernames and passwords. All statistics reported by the extension are anonymous. These metrics include the number of lookups that surface an unsafe credential, whether an alert leads to a password change and the web domain involved for improving site compatibility. The Password Checkup is designed in a way to only alert you when all of the information necessary to access your account has fallen into the hands of ...

Facebook said to be planning on cross-platform business messaging
Facebook is said to be building a unified messaging for a business feature that will let businesses access and manage Instagram Direct Messages alongside its Facebook Messenger messages. This would mark Facebook's first step toward building a tool to manage messaging across Facebook's apps for businesses. This is in-line with the company's plans to unite the back-end technology that runs Instagram, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp on the consumer side. The feature would add Instagram Direct messaging to a page owner's messaging inbox within the Facebook Pages Manager app on web and mobile. The tool currently only lets businesses control messages coming from Facebook Messenger. The function would exist only on the front-end for business page managers. Users would not be able to see the difference when their message is answered. The idea to integrate B2B messaging started in 2016 when the company integrated the ability to respond to comments posted on Instagram from the Facebook Pages Manager app. The big picture is the company's decision to unite the back end of its three giant messaging services that could help the company grow big in the business messaging space. The company is not immediately planning on monetizing the service. Nothing is official yet, so we will have ...
