Cydia app store for Jailbroken iPhones shuts down purchasing

Cydia creator Jay Saurik has made an official confirmation regarding the demise of the jailbreaking community's main app store. Cydia was able to support a small team devoted to upkeep the platform, but the time has long passed as Cydia has made next to nothing for Saurik. Saurik was already in plans on shutting down Cydia, and the recent security flaw put potentially logged in users at risk. This led to prominent jailbreak developers such as Nullpixel and Andy Wiik to issue statements urging users to remove their PayPal info from their accounts. Andy Wiik said: "I think he made a good decision for his own health." While it is no longer possible to make purchases through Cydia, the repo itself will still be around, allowing users to download previous purchases or make purchases through third-parties. Additional details on what the future holds for Cydia as well as its rise and fall need to be seen. Jay Saurik, in a Reddit post, said: The reality is that I wanted to just shut down the Cydia Store entirely before the end of the year, and was considering moving the timetable up. Source

Apple sued over misleading promotional images that covers notch on iPhone XS and XS Max

Apple with the iPhone X from last year has started embracing the notch and it is one of the core element of the phone as it packs the TrueDepth camera, Face ID sensors. With the iPhone XS/XS Max marketing, the notch blends into the black background wallpaper in many of the promotional images and on the front page of its website. Now, this smart marketing is leading problems to Apple as a woman is suing the company as those images are misleading. In a complaint filed in the Northern District of California, Courtney Davis' lawyers accuse Apple of designing its advertising to obscure the notch, leading Davis to believe that the iPhone XS Max she pre-ordered wouldn't actually come with a notch. The complaint also claims that Apple shouldn't count pixels on the corners of the device in its advertising, because they are rounded off. The lawsuit is seeking class-action status, as well as damages from Apple. It may be years before there are any substantial developments one way or the other. As expected, Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. The complaint reads: Images that disguise the missing pixels on the Products' screens are prominent on Defendant's website, as well as in the advertisements of retailers ...

Samsung Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S9, OnePlus 6, LG G7 ThinQ fooled by 3D Printed heads

Thanks to the rise of AI, facial recognition is cropping up everywhere and most probably some or the other technology is scanning our face every day. While it is aimed at protecting your smartphone from privacy invaders, but in a way, the facial recognition itself is a privacy invader. When tested with a 3D-printed head, four smartphones running Android OS managed to enter with a fake face, while Apple's iPhones were impossible to break through. The head was printed at Backface in Birmingham, U.K., Together, they combine to take a single shot that makes up a full 3D image. That image is then loaded up in editing software to iron out any errors. For the test, LG G7 ThinQ, Samsung S9, Samsung Note 8 and OnePlus 6 smartphones were used including an iPhone X. Then the fake head was pointed at the Android devices to see if the spoof face was able to open the phone, though with differing degrees of ease. The iPhone X was the only one to never be fooled, while all the four Android phones were fooled easily. There were some disparities between the Android devices' security against the hack. For instance, when first turning on a brand-new ...

Apple iPhone XR demand lower than expected, shipment estimations slashed: Kuo

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Apple iPhone XR demand has been lower than expected. Kuo has slashed his overall iPhone shipment forecast by 20% for the first quarter of 2019. However, Kuo now expects Apple to move 38-42 million iPhones in the quarter, down from an original estimate of 47-52 million.  Apple reported sales of 52.2 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2018, which corresponds with the Q2 of Apple's fiscal year. This means that 38 million shipments in the first quarter of 2019 would be a significant year-over-year decline. As for the iPhone XR in particular, Kuo has revised his shipment estimate to 15-20 million for the Q1 2019, down from 20-25 million. Kuo estimates annual iPhone shipments will fall between 205 million and 210 million in 2018 and based on that, forecasts that annual iPhone shipments in 2019 will decline up to 10% to a range of 188 million to 194 million. This would fall below Wall Street's consensus estimate of around 212 million units in 2019. Apple will no longer be disclosing unit sales in its quarterly earnings reports going forward, so investors will have to look towards iPhone revenue to determine how well the handset is selling. If sales are ...

After announcing Apple Music support on Amazon Echo speakers, the update is now rolling out in the US through the Alexa app on iOS and Android a few days ahead of schedule. You can now connect your Apple Music account with Echo speakers through the Alexa app and use Apple’s music streaming service with Alexa voice control. Once you connect your Apple Music account to Alexa, you can set the music service as your default music library source and default music station source. Apple Music on Alexa will have access to your personal music library including playlists that you create or add to your library from Apple Music. Apple Music’s integration with Alexa is a neat new addition for Echo customers who subscribe to Apple Music. Alexa integration is capable of controlling your music playback, tell you about currently playing music, and even play Apple Music on speaker groups that you create in the Alexa app. However, you can’t yet control Apple Music with Alexa on non-Echo speakers like Sonos even if those speakers support Apple Music on their own. Alexa also supports features that aren’t available on HomePod like setting alarms to music Amazon also supports music automation through a feature called Routines.
