Apple iPhone XR demand lower than expected, shipment estimations slashed: Kuo

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Apple iPhone XR demand has been lower than expected. Kuo has slashed his overall iPhone shipment forecast by 20% for the first quarter of 2019. However, Kuo now expects Apple to move 38-42 million iPhones in the quarter, down from an original estimate of 47-52 million.  Apple reported sales of 52.2 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2018, which corresponds with the Q2 of Apple's fiscal year. This means that 38 million shipments in the first quarter of 2019 would be a significant year-over-year decline. As for the iPhone XR in particular, Kuo has revised his shipment estimate to 15-20 million for the Q1 2019, down from 20-25 million. Kuo estimates annual iPhone shipments will fall between 205 million and 210 million in 2018 and based on that, forecasts that annual iPhone shipments in 2019 will decline up to 10% to a range of 188 million to 194 million. This would fall below Wall Street's consensus estimate of around 212 million units in 2019. Apple will no longer be disclosing unit sales in its quarterly earnings reports going forward, so investors will have to look towards iPhone revenue to determine how well the handset is selling. If sales are ...

After announcing Apple Music support on Amazon Echo speakers, the update is now rolling out in the US through the Alexa app on iOS and Android a few days ahead of schedule. You can now connect your Apple Music account with Echo speakers through the Alexa app and use Apple’s music streaming service with Alexa voice control. Once you connect your Apple Music account to Alexa, you can set the music service as your default music library source and default music station source. Apple Music on Alexa will have access to your personal music library including playlists that you create or add to your library from Apple Music. Apple Music’s integration with Alexa is a neat new addition for Echo customers who subscribe to Apple Music. Alexa integration is capable of controlling your music playback, tell you about currently playing music, and even play Apple Music on speaker groups that you create in the Alexa app. However, you can’t yet control Apple Music with Alexa on non-Echo speakers like Sonos even if those speakers support Apple Music on their own. Alexa also supports features that aren’t available on HomePod like setting alarms to music Amazon also supports music automation through a feature called Routines. Facebook API bug allowed apps to access unposted photos of up to 6.8 million users

Facebook has clarified that its team has discovered a photo API bug that may have affected people who used Facebook Login and granted permission to third-party apps to access their photos. Though it fixed the bug, some third-party apps might have accessed to a broader set of photos than usual in the period between September 13th to September 25th.  The bug potentially gave developers access to all photos including those shared on Marketplace or Facebook Stories. The bug also impacted photos that people uploaded to Facebook but chose not to post. Facebook says that around 6.8 million users are affected and up to 1,500 apps built by 876 developers. The only apps affected by this bug were ones that Facebook approved to access the photos API and that individuals had authorized to access their photos. The company said it will be rolling out tools for app developers that will allow them to determine which people using their app might be impacted by this bug. It will be working with those developers to delete the photos from impacted users. It will also notify the users potentially impacted by this bug via an alert on Facebook.
