Apple iOS 12 is on 72% of devices from last four years

Apple has announced that 70% of eligible iPhones, iPod touch devices are running on iOS 12 as of December 3rd, 2018. The adoption rate is up 10% in just five weeks; as of October 29th, iOS 12 was installed on 63% on all eligible devices. Apple also says 72% percent of devices sold in the last four years are running iOS 12. In comparison, the iOS 12 adoption is outpacing iOS 11, which was installed on 59 percent of eligible devices as of December 4, 2017, according to Apple. However, this shouldn't come as a surprise, as iOS 11 suffered from quite a few bugs over its lifespan. Apple was quick to rectify this and has focused more on performance and stability in iOS 12. At the moment, Apple says 21% of all devices remain on iOS 11 and 9% still run an older iOS version. The iOS installation rates are being broken down in a new way. The 70% statistic applies only to devices released in the last four years.  The company recently announced the iPhone XR is its best-selling phone and this likely explains the jump in active devices using the new operating system Source
