Microsoft Research prototypes Xbox controllers for phones and tablets

Thanks to ProjectxCloud, Microsoft is aiming to bring 'console quality' gaming to phones and tablet. Since the touch controls still pretty bad, the company might be planning on bringing physical controllers to mobile devices to offset this problem. According to the Microsoft Research papers, some of the popular solutions to gaming via a touch screen include Nintendo Switch and other portable game consoles that process the touch-based control limitations with full joysticks and buttons. Microsoft has built the prototypes out of foam and then had them 3D printed, based on conceptual renders. The work for the same started back in 2014, but it seems Microsoft Research has resurfaced their efforts recently, noting the recent success of the Nintendo Switch. Though the research is still far away from turning into an actual product, it's pretty imperative that Microsoft is seriously exploring how it can improve the way Xbox games handle on a mobile device to help take Project xCloud mainstream. Touch-based inputs always felt like a half-baked solutions and will feel even more like when they come up against games that are specially designed from ground-up. Either way, we still have very long to go before we see something like this in reality rather than on ...

Samsung introduces EVO Plus 512GB microSD Card

Samsung Galaxy Note9 supports up to 1TB storage with inbuilt 512GB storage and an additional 512GB support via microSD card. However, there's no 512GB microSD card from Samsung, up until now anyway. Back in August, Samsung teased the 512GB microSD card but never announced it, but 512GB Evo+ is now being spotted on the local Samsung website with a price tag.  As one would expect, the 512GB microSD card is a costly affair as it comes with €289.90 ($330 / Rs. 24,265 approx.) price tag. This by no means is cheap as you can get two 400GB SanDisk cards and have few more bucks saved. At the moment, Samsung's website only lets you sign-up for notifications regarding availability. In terms of technical details, the card supports up to 100MB/s read speed, and 90MB/s write speed, which is the standard performance for Samsung’s Evo+ cards. The card will work with any other type of device that supports expandable memory. If other microSD cards from Samsung are any clue, the 512GB Evo+ comes with a 10-year warranty and be water resistant. The website claims that it can transfer a 3GB video to your notebook or other devices in just 38 seconds. Since it is listed on Samsung's official website, ...

Google acknowledges a bug on Pixel 3 XL that adds a second notch to the side of the screen, says fix is coming soon

The notch of the Google Pixel 3 XL is possibly the most talked about feature besides the camera. However, making things worse, in a hilarious manner, a bug is said to manifest itself an additional notch on the right side of the display. It's a real-life bug experienced by several users as reported on Twitter.  So my Pixel randomly grew another notch today. 😂 https://t.co/c6Pff9MVmW pic.twitter.com/ugjfLmCkDZ — UrAvgConsumer (@UrAvgConsumer) October 24, 2018 While we are not sure what's causing this issue, but it could be something to do with the screen rotation setting that's probably getting a bit confused about its orientation. On that note, a proper restart of the phone made the second notch go away. So, at least it's not a permanent problem. Since it is a software related bug, it can be rectified. As expected, Google acknowledged the issue and it is aware of this highly anomalous behavior and said that a fix is coming. However, the company didn't give an estimate for the fix. Via

Samsung 0.8μm 48MP Bright GM1 and 32MP Bright GD1 ISOCELL image sensors for smartphones announced

Samsung Electronics has introduced two new 0.8-micrometer (μm) pixel image sensors; the 48-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 and the 32MP ISOCELL Bright GD1. Thanks to the reduced pixel size, the new sensors provide greater design flexibility, enabling manufacturers to build smaller modules or pack more pixels into existing designs. The GM1 and the GD1 sensors are based on Samsung's latest pixel isolation technology; the ISOCELL Plus – which optimizes performance especially for smaller-dimension pixels, making them the ideal solution for today’s super-resolution cameras. Additionally, thanks to Tetracell technology, where four pixels are merged to work as one to increase light sensitivity, the GM1 and GD1 can deliver light sensitivity equivalent to that of a 1.6μm-pixel image sensor at 12MP and 8MP resolution, respectively. The sensors also support Gyro-based electronic image stabilization (EIS) for fast and accurate image capture. The GD1 supports HDR to deliver more balanced exposure, richer color, and detail when filming selfie-videos or streaming live video content even in low-light, high-contrast environments. The Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 and GD1 are expected to be in mass production in the Q4 2018. Ben K. Hur, vice president of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics said: Demand for ultra-small, high-resolution image sensors are growing as smartphones evolve ...
