Google celebrates Chrome’s 10th birthday with major design overhaul, more powerful omnibox, improved password manager
Google Chrome turns 10 today! To celebrate the 10th anniversary, Google is rolling out Chrome with a new design and features across all browsers including desktop, iOS, and Android. First up, new-look for chrome. Starting today, users will see more rounded shaped corners, new icons, and a new color palette. It also comes with new rounded tabs, which is designed to be easier to see and useful for those who like to have too many tabs open in their browser. Secondly, Google also made some tweaks to the auto fill department as well. The latest version called Chrome 69, it will accurately fill in passwords, addresses, and credit card numbers into forms. All this information is saved to your Google account, and can also now be accessed directly from the Chrome toolbar. Thirdly, the company is getting an improved password manager, where Chrome will now generate one for you and will save it, and next time you sign in, it’ll be there, on both your laptop and phone. Apple’s 2019 iPhones said to ditch In-display fingerprint scanner for TrueDepth Camera System
With iPhone X, Apple got rid of the fingerprint scanner, and replaced it with the TrueDepth Camera System for Face ID as a biometric authentication method. Having said that, the company is planning to follow the same strategy with the upcoming iPhone devices as well according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. According to Kuo, Apple's 2019 iPhones won't be supporting the In-display fingerprint scanner either. He also added that Android manufacturers are adopting In-display fingerprint just to differentiate their device from the iPhone. Furthermore, he also predicts 500% growth on smartphones with in-display fingerprint scanner by the first half of 2019. Apple's arch-rival Samsung is expected to include fingerprint on display technology for its Galaxy S10 during the first quarter of 2019. Moreover, the other companies like Samsung also adopted facial recognition technology, but he mentioned that it is not as secure as Apple's TrueDepth Camera System. Global wearable market continues to grow, up 5.5% YoY in Q2 2018
According to the latest IDC report, the global wearable market continues to grow during the second quarter of 2018 (2Q18) as shipment volume reached 27.9 million units, up 5.5% from the previous year according to data. However, in some markets like North America, Japan, and Western Europe has seen a decline of 6.3% YoY as these market largely used to prefer basic wristbands last year. On the other hand, emerging markets including Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa, and Latin America grew 14% YoY since the basic wristbands and smartwatches gain traction. Apple reveals 95% iOS 11 adoption ahead of iOS 12 launch next week
Apple is dominating the headlines for past few weeks regarding the leaks, speculations about its upcoming iPhone series launch. However, this time, it's for a different reason and it has to do with iOS adoption rate. According to the statistics shared by the Cupertino giant, iOS 11 operating system is now installed on 85 percent of devices as of September 3. Out of the remaining 15 percent, 10 percent continues to use iOS 10 and five percent continue to use an earlier version like iOS 8 or iOS 9. Moving on to the adoption rate, the iOS 11 is comparatively slower than its predecessor and this might be due to the multiple bugs affecting iOS 11. Instagram said to introduce standalone shopping app
Instagram, a photo and video-sharing social networking service owned by Facebook, is reportedly working on a new standalone app for shopping. Expected to be called as 'IG Shopping', this app lets the users select product from the page or merchant they follow and purchase them directly from the app itself. This is more like the Instagram app itself with an additional integration of shopping. However, there is no authentic information from the officials about the launch and other details.
