OnePlus 6 emerged as the bestselling premium smartphone in India, here’s why we are not surprised
Shenzhen-headquartered OnePlus hasn't been around for long but caused a tremendous stir by selling power-packed phones that sell at a significantly lower price in comparison with other manufacturers. Founded in 2014, the rising upstart OnePlus is making some much-needed noise across the globe including the Indian smartphone market. A couple of years ago, Carl Pei, Co-founder, OnePlus, mentioned that the Android smartphone makers are more focused on marketing than producing the best product. On the other hand, OnePlus aimed to design a smartphone with a top-notch quality and groundbreaking specification at a lower price than other smartphones in its class, thus OnePlus One was born. With the OnePlus One, the company also introduced a one-of-its-kind invite system to purchase the device. As per the invite system, Invites are handed out through various means including social media, promotions, competitions and more whereas the OnePlus owners can also share invites with their friends. These marketing tactics along with positive WOM (Word Of Mouth) enabled OnePlus to build a community and loyal fanbase. While most of them thought the invite system will cease to exist with OnePlus 2, the company proved it wrong. Furthermore, to generate hype, the company kept it's device specifications under wraps and decided ...

Google app update hints at conventional translation on smart display, categories in top apps and more
Google is rolling out a new update to its Google app and as usual, there's aren't any major changes right out of the bat, but there are substantial changed lying beneath. It hints about features like a conventional translation on smart display, categories in top apps, memory Aid Locker and more. Google seems to be developing a new feature; currently named "Memory Aid Locker." However, there are not many details about the feature except for the clues like the name, a placeholder for a settings screen, and a layout that only contains a web view. It could be a new version of 'Saved pages' in order to make it earlier to organize information. Google might soon bring live language translation to the first Assistant-powered smart displays. However, the code of the app just adds details like instructions to start talking, a couple more status messages to show when Assistant is listening and when it has begun translating. Over the last few versions, there are various bits and pieces appearing relating to a "Top Apps" feature. While there's were not many details in the previous versions, the new update adds a list of popular app categories. The topics cover the government, news, science, technology, and so on. It also a dedicated category ...
Indian Govt plans localization of cloud storage data within the country: Report
A new report suggests that the panel working on the Indian government’s cloud computing policy wants data generated in India to be stored within the country. This proposal comes as a big blow to global technology giants such as Amazon and Microsoft who offer cloud services. This move could raise costs because they will need to ramp up the number and size of data storage centers in India and some of them are moved on to small-time startups to large corporations. This proposal is the latest in a series of moves that seeks to spur data localization in India, as the government finalizes an overarching data protection law. Local data storage requirements for digital payments and e-commerce sectors are also being planned. This proposal is aimed at making the data stored in the cloud easily accessible. This push for localization of data comes at the time of heightened global scrutiny of how companies store user data. The draft report of the cloud policy panel, headed by the co-founder of Indian tech giant Infosys, Kris Gopalakrishnan, said a “forward-looking” data protection regime is needed as India’s IT laws framework was “not sufficient” for cloud computing. He further added: “We recommend localization of cloud data and any data that is ...
