China’s BOE Display said to supply OLED displays to Apple

Apple currently relies on Samsung for the supply of OLED displays for the iPhone X. However, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, China seems to be pushing itself in becoming a supplier of OLED displays to Apple. This comes as a part of its efforts to increase advanced manufacturing.  Furthermore, the report claims that China's BOE Technology Group is seeking to supply Apple with OLED displays for future iPhone models. At present, BOE supplies displays for iPads and MacBooks and is also the largest supplier of large LCD screens. It is the only Chinese display company that supplies to Apple and is controlled by the Beijing city government. This change has another advantage as it helps Apple in staying on good terms with the Chinese government. As for BOE, it is a win for China in its race to catch up with South Korea and Japan in advanced display-screen manufacturing. There reports about LG Display supplying 2 to 4 million OLED Panels for 6.5-inch Apple iPhone X Plus. The Wall Street Journal report says: Buying display screens from BOE, which is controlled by the Beijing city government and whose biggest shareholders are state-linked companies, could help Apple stay in China’s good graces—as long ...

Google ‘Saved’ site feature gets Material Theme, “Save to Google” Chrome extension to be killed

Google's Save to functionality to bookmark images, links was first built into the Image Search and later was moved to Search app on Android, Google also maintained a Chrome extension to save pages. However, it looks like Google is all set to kill this next month. The "Save To Google" extension was released in April 2016 in a way to save specific images, links. The company now renamed it to “Saved.” This feature became more prominent in 2017 when Google mobile search and the Google app added a quick shortcut to access the saved photos and links. As for Android, the Chrome Custom Tabs opened through Search or the Feed has the “Save” button in the app bar. However, the “Save to Google” in recent days shows a warning at the top of the panel saying that the extension to be discontinued on 8/15/2018. It also includes a link to “View saves” which opens up google.com/save. This hints that the feature might not be removed completely, instead, just the method to save them via desktop. This comes as a surprise, as updates to the Search Android app functionality suggests the active development. On the other hand, the desktop website was recently updated to match mobile with a shared responsive design with Google material design styling. Source

Back in May, we first heard that Google might introduce Pixel smartwatch alongside Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, new Pixel Buds later this year. Thanks to Evan Blass, we now have a new piece of information about one more hardware product that is going to be launched at the same stage. The product in question is the second-generation Pixelbook.  Add to this fall hardware lineup a second-generation Pixelbook, with smaller bezels, scheduled to ship before the end of the year. — Evan Blass (@evleaks) July 22, 2018 Other than the fact that Google might introduce the second-generation Pixelbook, we also know that the 2nd gen Pixel Book will pack smaller bezels and it could be scheduled to ship before the end of the year. Google’s hardware event takes place around October every year, and last year it was Pixel 2 series and this year it will be the successor to it. Despite it being a rumor, the source aka Evan Blass has a history of being credible. We don't really have specifications at this moment, but our educated bet point at a chipset from Intel or Qualcomm Mobile PC, a portable carry machine, running on Chrome OS. Since we are hearing this for the first time, we ...

Vivo NEX Review

When Vivo announced the Apex concept at Mobile World Congress, nobody expected to see an honest to goodness retail smartphone based on it this soon. Now that we’ve spent some time with the hardware, here’s what we think about it.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAXnvS45D0c Vivo NEX specifications 6.59-inch (2316×1080 pixels) Full HD+ Super AMOLED 19.3:9 aspect ratio display, DCI-P3 color gamut 2.8GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 64-bit 10nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 630 GPU 8GB RAM, 128GB storage Dual SIM Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 (Oreo) 12MP Dual PD rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, Sony IMX363 sensor, 4-axis OIS, f/1.8 aperture, secondary 5MP camera with f/2.4 aperture 8MP front-facing camera, f/2.0 aperture In-display fingerprint sensor Dimensions: 162×77×7.98m; Weight: 199g 3.5mm audio jack, CS43199 + SSM6322 Amplifier Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz) 2×2 MIMO , Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS + GLONASS, USB Type-C 4000mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging Honestly, I’d have liked it if Vivo stuck with the name Apex. After all, this phone really is packing the best mobile tech components available. Only the second phone with an in-screen fingerprint sensor and wait for it… no notch. All that in addition to top of the line specs. If that’s not the definition ...

WhatsApp said to be testing ‘Suspicious Link Detection’ feature to fight spam [Update: Now rolling out for Android beta users]

Update: With the WhatsApp for Android beta v2.18.221 update, the company has started rolling out the Suspicious Link Detection feature to fight spam. WhatsApp for Android is getting a new Beta release with version number 2.18.206. This update hints at a much-needed feature; 'Suspicious Link Detection' that it has been working for quite some time. This feature should restrict the spammy links that are being shared. This feature will help users to detect sent and received suspicious links in WhatsApp. The app analyzes when you receive it and detects if it redirects to a fake or alternative website. If the link is found suspicious, it will present a message that is marked with a red label, indicating to you the presence of it. Regardless of the warning message, if you try to open the link, WhatsApp will alert you again that you’re trying to open a possible suspicious link. WhatsApp will analyze the link shared/received and this process will be done locally and no data is sent to WhatsApp servers in order to detect suspicious links. The company is said to be working on improving the feature and might see fresh new additions in the days to come. If anything we might even see a feature that would allow ...
