Vivo NEX Review

When Vivo announced the Apex concept at Mobile World Congress, nobody expected to see an honest to goodness retail smartphone based on it this soon. Now that we’ve spent some time with the hardware, here’s what we think about it.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAXnvS45D0c Vivo NEX specifications 6.59-inch (2316×1080 pixels) Full HD+ Super AMOLED 19.3:9 aspect ratio display, DCI-P3 color gamut 2.8GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 64-bit 10nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 630 GPU 8GB RAM, 128GB storage Dual SIM Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 (Oreo) 12MP Dual PD rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, Sony IMX363 sensor, 4-axis OIS, f/1.8 aperture, secondary 5MP camera with f/2.4 aperture 8MP front-facing camera, f/2.0 aperture In-display fingerprint sensor Dimensions: 162×77×7.98m; Weight: 199g 3.5mm audio jack, CS43199 + SSM6322 Amplifier Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz) 2×2 MIMO , Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS + GLONASS, USB Type-C 4000mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging Honestly, I’d have liked it if Vivo stuck with the name Apex. All that in addition to top of the line specs. If that’s not the definition ...

WhatsApp said to be testing ‘Suspicious Link Detection’ feature to fight spam [Update: Now rolling out for Android beta users]

Update: With the WhatsApp for Android beta v2.18.221 update, the company has started rolling out the Suspicious Link Detection feature to fight spam. WhatsApp for Android is getting a new Beta release with version number 2.18.206. This update hints at a much-needed feature; 'Suspicious Link Detection' that it has been working for quite some time. This feature should restrict the spammy links that are being shared. This feature will help users to detect sent and received suspicious links in WhatsApp. The app analyzes when you receive it and detects if it redirects to a fake or alternative website. If the link is found suspicious, it will present a message that is marked with a red label, indicating to you the presence of it. Regardless of the warning message, if you try to open the link, WhatsApp will alert you again that you’re trying to open a possible suspicious link. WhatsApp will analyze the link shared/received and this process will be done locally and no data is sent to WhatsApp servers in order to detect suspicious links. The company is said to be working on improving the feature and might see fresh new additions in the days to come. If anything we might even see a feature that would allow ...

Facebook confirms to have been working on new internet satellite

According to emails obtained from the Federal Communications Commission Facebook might be working on a new internet satellite since fiber optic cables are the gold standard of a good internet connection. The email documents reveal that the satellite would be named 'Athena' and will see an official launch as early as 2019.   This new satellite is designed to“efficiently provide broadband access to unserved and underserved areas throughout the world,” according to Facebook's application that appears to have been filed with the FCC under the name PointView Tech LLC. Facebook with this filing joins Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Softbank-backed OneWeb who are also working on similar projects. However, emails that go back to July 2016, and subsequent confirmation confirms the reports about Facebook starting a satellite internet project. Now the new detail meetings between FCC officials and lawyers that Facebook hired specializes in representing clients before government agencies to discuss applying for an experimental license to construct and operate a “small LEO [low Earth orbit] satellite system with a limited duration mission.” Furthermore, the emails indicate that Facebook also set up subsequent meetings with the FCC in June and December of 2017. However, when asked, Facebook confirmed that Athena is their project. The biggest challenge for Facebook and any ...

Google Chrome for Android to soon let websites send notifications with quick reply

Google Chrome might soon be able to let websites send you notifications, just like how it is currently, but it will come with a newly added Quick Reply support. Meaning, notifications from websites like Facebook lets you quickly get back with a reply just like you would to a normal message from another application. Just to be clear, the feature is currently in testing and isn't available even on Google Chrome Canary yet. It would allow you to quickly reply to a notification from your status bar, given that website have support for it. Such a feature should be very useful in scenarios like talking to a customer support chat or messaging friends through a website. Once the testing is done, the feature should make its way to the Canary channel straight after. Currently, there are no details that explain how the feature works or how to enable it, so it might be a while before it is made available to everyone. Source | Via

Google, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft join hands for Data Transfer Project (DTP)

Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Microsoft today announced that they are joining hands for an initiative called the Data Transfer Project which is designed as a new way to move data between platforms. This open source initiative will enable consumers to transfer their data directly from one service to another, without needing to download and re-upload it. Download Data feature is already available to users and they can transfer their information directly to their Dropbox, Box, MS OneDrive, and Google Drive accounts starting today. Thanks to this project, the companies involved in this project are developing tools that can convert any service's proprietary APIs to and from a small set of standardized data formats that can be used by anyone. This makes it possible to transfer data between any two providers using existing industry-standard infrastructure and authorization mechanisms, such as OAuth. The existing code for the project is available as open-source on GitHub, along with a white paper describing its scope. Google says that data privacy and protection is important, so, services must first agree to allow data transfer between them, and then they will require that individuals authenticate each account independently. All the credentials and user data will be encrypted both in transit and at rest.
