PUBG developer drops lawsuit against Fortnite

Back in May, PUBG developer sued Epic Games' Fortnite over copyright infringement in Korea. This marks the end of a legal battle between two of the world’s hottest games. PUBG has sent a letter of withdrawal to Epic Games Inc.’s attorneys on Monday, and the case has since been closed, according to the website of the local court system. Though PUBG and its law firm confirmed the action but wouldn’t say the reason behind the move, nor whether a settlement had been reached.  Both the games are part-owned by social media and gaming giant Tencent Holdings Ltd. PUBG claimed that Epic’s Fortnite mimicked many of the characteristics of its game back in January. PUBG separately sued China’s Netease Inc. for allegedly basing two games; Rules of Survival and Knives Out. PUBG is a survivor shooter game that became very popular within a short time. As of April, 40 million copies of the game have been sold on Steam and over 4 million console copies. Epic Games is currently preparing to foray into the Korean market in partnership with Neowiz Games as they have signed an agreement in January to release Fortnite this year.
