Apple said to be expanding advertising business with third-party apps
Apple is now looking into expanding its advertising business with new network for apps as the company is now planning to move beyond just selling hardware products to pushing services. According to a report from WSJ, Apple over the year said to have met with Snap Inc., Pinterest Inc., and other companies in participating in the Apple network that would distribute ads across their collective apps. Apple would share revenue with the apps displaying the ads, with the split varying from app to app. The move will expand Apple's growing business selling promotional ads for search terms in its App Store, which delivered nearly $1 billion in revenue last year. The concept behind this as discussed with potential partners is when users search in Pinterest’s app for “drapes” might trigger an ad distributed by Apple for an interior-design app, or Snap users searching for “NFL” might see an ad for a ticket-reseller app. Representatives of Apple, Snap, and Pinterest declined to comment. If at all the company indeed pushes the efforts in this territory, it would be competing in a market dominated by Alphabet Inc.’s Google who currently holds 35% of the mobile ad market, and Facebook Inc., which has 25%, according to research firm eMarketer. Competing with Google and Facebook won't ...
Facebook to remove ‘Trending’ topics section
Facebook today announced that it is removing Trending section from the platform to make way for future news experiences on Facebook. It introduced trending back in 2014 in a way to help users to discover trending news and topics. Since it was only available in five countries and accounted for less than 1.5% of clicks to news publishers on average, the company has decided to pull the plug finally. With the same intentions, the company will remove Trending from Facebook next week and will also remove products and third-party partner integrations that rely on the Trends API. Facebook further added that it is exploring new ways to help people stay informed about timely, breaking news that matters to them, while making sure the news they see on Facebook is from trustworthy and quality sources. The company is running a 'Breaking News Label' test with over 80 publishers across North America, South America, Europe, India, and Australia. This lets publishers put a “breaking news” indicator on their posts in News Feed. It is already known that Facebook is working on a dedicated Today In local news and events section in the app. It will also launch a dedicated section on Facebook Watch in the US where people can view ...
Unicode 11.0 brings 66 new emojis including softball, kangaroo, partying face, parrot, and more
Unicode published the final Emoji 11.0 list of Emojis for 2018 back in February and today the company announced that the 11.0 will arrive on June 5th. This brings 66 new emojis including softball, kangaroo, partying face, parrot, and more. Though Unicode makes the new emojis available to vendors, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Samsung tends to have their own schedule for making new emojis available to the public. But the support should come before the end of 2018. The company says that out of the 66 new emojis, 62 of them are present within the keyboard. Some of the new emojis include raccoon, llama, hippo, kangaroo, and badger. There’s also a swan, peacock, parrot, mango, leafy greens, a bagel, salt, a moon cake, and a cupcake Additionally, the company has also added four emoji components in Unicode 11.0. These are for use in sequences but not expected to be shown as their own characters on emoji keyboards. According to previous trends, Google and Apple will roll out the Unicode 11.0 around September 2019 January-February for Samsung and social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, etc. in August. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with revamped camera, Snapdragon 845 expected to be unveiled on August 9
Samsung still has one more flagship in its kitty before the year ends; yes we are talking about the Galaxy Note 9. A couple of days ago we heard that the device launch might be delayed by two weeks, thanks to slight design change ordered by the company's vice-president. Today, according to a new report, Samsung is said to be working on revamping the camera of the flagship. It's no brainer that the upcoming flagship from Samsung would be named Galaxy Note 9, it will include an upgraded processor from Qualcomm Inc; which we know is the Snapdragon 845 for some markets. In contradiction, the new report from sources familiar with the matter claim that the Unpacked event which might take place in New York said to be coming about two weeks earlier this year than a similar occasion last year. Samsung is also aiming to push the flagship before the end of August. However, these plans might change as well. Samsung has had a good year so far with the Galaxy S9 reception being terrific. According to IDC tracker, Samsung witnessed a 23% market share in Q1 2018 compared to 16% for Apple. Samsung is also working on a smart speaker with its digital assistant Bixby. Source
