Samsung patent hints at wearable with extended curved display

Samsung has filed a patent at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and was published under the title and patent number US D813,864 S “Wearable Electronic Device.” Going by the patent sketch, it appears to be a wearable with an extended display. Like always, the patents aren't the accurate representation of what the company might have imaged for.  The patent sketch shows the watch band and it is also curved in a way that, when worn, it attaches to wearer’s arm, extending down the arm toward the elbow. The band seen in the drawings seems to slide along a double loop. You can also see the Samsung's signature oval-shaped button on the watch frame, much like how it is seen on the Samsung’s smartphones. With Samsung pulling off a foldable smartphone that is due sometime this year if things go right, a wearable with a curved display is no surprise especially coming from Samsung. Either way, we see these types of patents showing up every now and then, so there's no way to tell if they will ever see the light in the day. Given that there is no much description accompanying the patent, we advise you to take this development with a pinch of salt until Samsung ...

Essential Phone 2 will have a better camera says the company

Essential launched the PH-1 back in May 2017 and it opened up to pretty bad reviews for its camera. Though the company has been working and consistently pushing timely updates, it still is not on the same levels of its competitors. However, the company today has acknowledged the same and confirmed that its next-gen will come with a better optics. While the phone got rave reviews in general for its performance, build quality, and other departments, it is only the camera that was widely criticized. The phone packs a decent camera, but the good performance is restricted to only good-lighting conditions and fails to put up the same in low and artificial lighting conditions. The company though acknowledges the camera issue, hasn't disclosed any time frame as to when the second-generation will be coming out, but we feel that it is likely to launch as soon as this summer. Jiang didn't reveal much about what other changes Essential is making for its next-gen phone. The 360-camera camera accessory will still work with future models of the phone. Essential's head of industrial design Linda Jiang said: In general, one thing that we got hit hard with was the quality of our camera, and we're really looking forward to improving that with ...

YouTube Kids to get Whitelisted version that shows human-curated non-algorithmic content

YouTube is planning to release a new version of its YouTube Kids app that will only show and display videos from channels that a team of YouTube curators handpicks. The updated version will also have an option that parents can select alongside the algorithmic version. By giving the option for parents to control or turn off the algorithmically recommended videos, YouTube will no longer suggest conspiracy theory videos to children. It should also restrict YouTube from displaying content that is not appropriate for kids which were the case a few times in the past. A few days ago reports surfaced that YouTube Kids was suggesting a wide number of conspiracy videos to viewers including videos which make claims that the world is flat, that the moon landing was faked, and that the planet is ruled by reptile-human hybrids, etc. Since YouTube kids is meant to show only kid-friendly videos, even YouTube admits that it failed to do so. Reports suggest that YouTube kids might be coming as soon as next week and it is designed to give parents an option where they can feel comfortable letting their kids watch videos on their own. YouTube didn't deny, but said: "we're always working to update and improve YouTube Kids." Source

Google Chrome said to get full-scale Material Design 2 revamp in September

Back in February, it is reported that Google is working on a mysterious Material Design 2 which was spotted in Google’s open source repository for Chrome and Chrome OS. However, Google quickly made the Commit private as soon as the news broke. However, there few changes to the Commit once again and it now appears that the Chrome browser will receive a full-blown redesign during September.  While the earlier references point to a revamped material design, there is not much into it that can help us understand what Google is aiming to achieve. Google even changed the MD2 material design 2 references and replaced with “Touch-Optimized.”Google is internally working on a revamped UI for Google Chrome but hasn't settled on a name just yet. Google Engineer who is responsible for implementing the UI changes for the Chrome tab and tabstrip accidentally referenced “touch-optimized” design as the mysterious MD2. Like before, once the reference broke out in the open, the Commit is again made private. According to the various commits that were spotted in the recent times, it looks like Google is said to be revamping Chrome to better optimize for tablets and Windows convertible devices. It’s possible to enable this new UI by going to chrome://flags/#top-chrome-md in the latest builds of Chrome Canary or ...

Xiaomi is all set to announce the Black Shark gaming phone on April 13th, now ahead of the official launch, the phone has surfaced online revealing the rear-side design of the phone. We can also see the dual-rear cameras, LED flash down below the branding case. For a gaming smartphone, the Xiaomi Black Shark design and build is very unusual. It seems to be also having cooling vents, and it makes sense since it a gaming phone. It also comes green colour similar to the Razer Phone's accent. The phone also might pack add-on accessories on top, which should offer Nintendo Switch like joystick experience. Since the phone doesn't have a slim profile, we're sure it will be packing a massive 4000mAh battery. It might also have IP68 certification with water and dust resistance.
