Staqu introduces AI-powered Smart Glasses in India that can help identify threats like intruders and criminals

Gurgaon-based Staqu today has launched the AI-powered Smart Glasses with inbuilt camera in India. It comes with speech and image recognition combined. The company says that it can identify potential threats to the civil society, such as criminals, intruders or terrorists. The Staqu AI-powered Smart Glass's built-in camera can capture input to trigger Facial Recognition, and once the face is identified within the given databases, the Smart Glass projects the results on the glass screen. The entire process will happen in real-time as the user simply glances over the vicinity. According to the company, the Glasses will work even in wild scenarios as it fuses together speech and image recognition to utilize a hybrid identification technology and uniquely identify anyone. The information is streamed in real-time from a centralized server, and these glasses can further be controlled from the centralized administrative portal, and specific recognition targets for each glass can be set remotely. According to a ET report, Staqu will be starting a pilot of its smart glass platform with Punjab Police and will work very closely with them to identify to help identify criminals. Honor 7X gets Face Unlock via OTA update in India

Huawei’s Honor brand has announced that it has started rolling out a new software update to enable Face unlock feature in Honor 7X smartphone in India, as it had promised. Face Unlock for the Honor View 10 was released back in January and the Honor 9 Lite got the feature last month. [HTML1] To enable face recognition, you need to enroll your face by accessing Face recognition feature in phone settings menu. You can enroll your face by simply looking at the camera. By detecting your face, Honor 7X detects the positioning between you and the phone and adjusts the direction accordingly. The new update that brings Face unlock for the Honor 7X will roll out starting today which is being pushed in batches. The company says that all the Honor 7X users should get the update by 16th March 2018. We should also get the full changelog soon. There are not details about the Android 8.0 (Oreo) update for the phone yet. The company recently launched the Red version of the phone and it also said that the phone is now made in India at Flex plant in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai.

Honor 9 Lite available with instant discount, exchange offer on Flipkart on March 13

Huawei's Honor brand launched the Honor 9 Lite smartphone earlier this year. It even got face unlock feature recently. Today the company has announced that the phone will be available with discounts and exchange offers as part of Flipkart’s Mobile Bonanza sales tomorrow, 13th March. It also said that this will be its Biggest sale so we can expect enough stocks. Google’s 1443 PPI 120Hz AMOLED display for VR might be announced in May

Back in December 2017 Google had teased about a VR display that will have 10x more pixels than any commercially available VR display today. It looks Google is now all set to introduce the next-big-thing in the VR space. The search engine giant at the SID 2018 in May is expected introduce the super high-resolution display. According to a new report, the new Google designed VR display will be a 4.3-inch screen which will have a resolution of 18-megapixels with a pixel density of 1443 PPI which is almost double the pixel density compared to the Virtual Reality panels that are available in the market today. Another impressive aspect of the screen is that it will have 120Hz refresh rate which would allow for a great gaming experience. While it is unknown which manufacturer Google has partnered with for producing the VR, it could very well be either LG or Samsung who was able to produce a 1,200 PPI AMOLED in March 2017. On the other hand, LG who teamed up with Google for Pixel 2 XL could also be a partner considering Google's plan on investing $872 million in LG Display in order to secure OLED supply. Apple said to launch entry-level Retina MacBook in June

Apple is busy prepping an entry-level MacBook that is likely to launch at the WWDC in June falling in line with the earlier report from KGI. The security analyst in his report said that he is expecting total shipments of MacBook models will grow 10-15% YoY in 2018. The pricing of the entry-level MacBook said to be in the range of $799 or $899. While the new report from Digitimes, it is unclear if it would be MacBook or MacBook Air line. But considering that it will be an entry-level machine with a similar 12-inch size, it is very likely that it will be MacBook Air. The Digitimes report states that the pricing will be more or less same as than the current MacBook Air, which starts at $999, and will include a Retina display. LG will be supplying the display panel in April and will enter mass production at the end of May or the beginning of June. As for production, Quanta Computer likely to get 70% of the orders and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) 30%. The report further states that Apple will likely ship four million units in 2018 which sounds like a fair share considering the pricing. Xiaomi Dipper with Snapdragon 845, 6GB RAM surfaces in benchmarks, could be Mi 7

Xiaomi's Mi 6  is almost a year old now and it looks like the company is prepping the launch of Mi 7 as a Xiaomi device with flagship level specifications have surfaced in benchmarks. The listing reveals that it will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. Though the Geekbench doesn't reveal if it is the Mi 7 but considering the specifications, it could very well be. Apart from the Snapdragon 845 chipset, the phone will have 6GB RAM which is yet another giveaway. The Xiaomi Dipper scores 2449 in Single-Core and 8309 in Multi-Core. Since the phone is listed on Geekbench, we're not really sure about the other specifications. Given the trend, the Xiaomi M7 will likely have a bezel-less full-screen display, should run on Android 8.0 Oreo with MIUI 9 on top, dual-rear cameras, Fingerprint sensor, and possibly wireless charging that will be introduced for the first time in a Xiaomi smartphone starting with Mi MIX 2S later this month. Airtel launches VoLTE services in Kolkata

After Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra & Goa, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Karnataka,Chennai and Coimbatore, Airtel has launched its 4G VoLTE services in Kolkata. This lets Airtel customers enjoy HD quality voice calls along with faster call set up time compared to normal voice calls on their VoLTE-compatible 4G handsets. Airtel promises seamless connectivity and in the case of non-availability of 4G, Airtel VoLTE calls will automatically fall back on 3G/2G network, said the company. It will also allow customers to continue with their data sessions at 4G speeds while the call is in progress. Airtel says that customers with Dual-SIM handsets should insert their Airtel SIM in SIM slot 1 and network mode should be set as "4G/3G/2G (Auto)" for VoLTE to work properly. The  company says that the handset manufacturer need to upgrade the smartphone’s software to support Airtel VoLTE, even though there are hundreds of 4G smartphones in the market with VoLTE support. Huawei's Honor brand just introduced the Honor 7C  smartphone in China today. This directly competes with the Redmi 5 that was introduced back in December last year and will launch in India this week. Both these share almost similar specifications including a 18:9 display, Snapdragon 450, up to 4GB RAM, fingerprint sensor on the back and a metal back. Huawei's Honor brand just announced Honor 7C, the latest budget smartphone, as it had promised. It has a 5.99-inch HD+ 2.5D curved glass display with 18:9 aspect ratio, is powered by Snapdragon 450 with up to 4GB RAM and runs on  Android 8.0 (Oreo) with EMUI 8.0 on top. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera to capture the depth information for portrait shots. There is an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with support for beauty mode, soft LED flash that can be adjusted depending on the lighting conditions. It also has face unlock similar to most of the Honor smartphones. It has dedicated dual SIM as well as micro SD slots, has a fingerprint sensor on the back and packs a 3000mAh battery. Xiaomi Redmi 5A back to original price of Rs. 5999 ahead of Redmi 5 launch

Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5A back in November last year at a competitive price of Rs. 4999. At the launch of the phone, Manu Jain, Vice President and Managing Director, Xiaomi India said that the complimentary price is only for first five million units, post which the phone will be available for Rs. 5,999. Earlier this year the company said that it sold over 1 million or 10 lakh units of Redmi 5A smartphones in less than a month of sale. Now the company has reverted the price of the phone to original rate on Flipkart as well as Mi.com. The company has not revealed if it has as achieved the 5 million sales goal. [HTML1] This comes ahead of the launch of Redmi 5 on Wednesday that will replace last year’s Redmi 4 which was launched at a competitive price of Rs. 6999. Xiaomi recently stopped selling the base version of the Redmi 4 to make way for the Redmi 5, which is expected to launch at the same starting price. It is not clear if Xiaomi wants users to for the more powerful Redmi 5 for a slightly higher price compared to the Redmi 5A by reverting the price back to original.
