Generally, Google has a trend of rolling out new Android version as developer preview before the official introduction at the I/O event. Following the same trend this time as well, it is widely anticipated that Google might release the first developer's preview later this month according to popular leakster Evan Blass. Evan doesn't mention any other details of the features but gives us a time-frame to keep an eye out. However, the public launch won't be before August or September. Given the March 21st release of first Oreo developer's preview, we're pretty sure that sometime later this month would be it for the first appearance of Android P. [HTML1] Furthermore, according to reports and rumors surfaced so far, Android P should be a significant upgrade over Oreo. Essential granted patent for smartphone with no-notch display, popup front camera
Vivo showcased the APEX concept phone with in-display fingerprint scanner, 98% screen-to-body ratio and most importantly an elevating front camera at the MWC 2018 event last week. The unique feature of the phone is the front-camera that seamlessly rises in 0.8 seconds when it is required and retracts after use. But it turns out, Andy Rubin of Essential was granted the patent for this solution to Essential Products, Inc in 2017. [HTML1] [HTML2] This new piece of information was revealed by Andy Rubin himself and linked a Google Patents page on Twitter in a response to a query from an Essential fan named Rafael. The patent was filed in the US in May 2016 by Essential Products Inc entitled "Apparatus and method to maximize the display area of a mobile device." It basically reciprocates exactly the same thing that Vivo demonstrated. Essential was granted the patent in August 2017, however, a follow-up patent is currently pending. Furthermore, another implementation shows the camera that will be mounted on the top-left corner of the screen and simultaneously act as a permanent camera icon. Brands usually file for patents that never see the day in the light, but with Andy Rubin showing off the patent design, it's a fair bet to expect at least ...
Apple to launch cheaper 13-inch MacBook Air in Q2 2018: KGI
According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is said to be working on a low-cost MacBook Air that will see the day in the light in Q2 2018. In his latest investors report, Kuo says that he is expecting total shipments of MacBook models will grow 10-15% YoY in 2018. However, he doesn't offer many details about the upcoming lower priced MacBook Air and on what to expect, but with the current models being outdated with no substantial updates in three years, we can expect the upcoming MacBook Air to pack the latest internals. The only upgrade to the 13-inch model in recent times is just a small bump to the base processor option last June, but it's still a Broadwell chip from the 2014–15 timeframe. Aside from the internals, the MacBook Air might also see a radical change in display quality. The existing model offers a 1440 x 900 non-Retina display and we'll also likely have USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 upgrades and the company might completely re-design. The time frame for the launch is expected between April–June, which falls in time for the WWDC in June. Recently we have also learned that Apple is also working on new AirPods with water resistance, Siri integration, and high-end over-ear headphones. In a new ...
